William Thomas Obituary

William R. Thomas, 77, of Carlisle Street, South Wilkes-Barre, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 29, 2010, at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke. His health had been declining for several years, and he was seriously ill since April. Born on December 4, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late William R. Thomas and the late Viola Davies Thomas Miller. He graduated from E.L. Meyers High School, class of 1950, and resided in South Wilkes-Barre most of his life. Mr. Thomas served his country with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and attained the rank of Corporal. He was employed as a mechanic at the former Jimmy's Central Lanes Bowling Alley, Wilkes-Barre, for many years and later at Fay's Wholesale Drug Co., Plains Township, as a shipping clerk until his retirement. He was preceded in death by brothers Arthur and George Thomas, and sisters Amelia Thoma, Ruth Psolinski and Martha Woronowicz. Surviving is his wife, the former Alice Williams, with whom he observed their 58th wedding anniversary this past Monday, June 28, 2010; sons David W. Thomas and his wife, Lucy, Pittsburgh, Pa., and William R. Thomas Jr., Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Gregory Thomas, Laura Thomas, William Reese Thomas III and Mark Thomas; as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with Pastor Timothy G. Hall, of Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
