Fred Rowlen Obituary

Frederick Charles Rowlen, 76, of Escondido, California, passed away on July 9, 2025, in his home. Born on March 5, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, Fred was the son of Priscilla and Charles Rowlen. He graduated from Escondido High School and later San Diego State University with a degree in chemistry.

Fred retired from the City of Escondido after working as a Laboratory/Industrial Waste Superintendent from 1988 to 2003. Prior to that, he worked as an Environmental Specialist and Laboratory Director for Encina Joint Powers.

While his children were young, Fred volunteered as a soccer coach and board member for North County Youth Soccer Association. He shared many fond memories of time on the soccer field.

He was also, an avid gardener. Fred loved to harvest vegetables, specializing in the biggest, most delicious tomatoes. He spent hours in his garden with his cats.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Emily Martinez, her husband, Ruben Martinez, grandchildren Abigail, Joseph, and Hazel Martinez, brother Jim Rowlen, and twin brother, Frank Rowlen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristen Rowlen, and son Patrick Rowlen.

A private memorial service will be held for the family at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
