Robert Lochhead Obituary

Robert Steven "Bob" Lochhead passed away on August 4, 2025, in Hobart, WI. Born on April 11, 1945, Bob led a life marked by service, dedication, and enduring family connections.

A native San Diegan, he was raised in Lemon Grove, California. Bob attended Monterey Heights Elementary and Mt. Miguel High School. He continued his education at Grossmont Community College before graduating from San Diego State University. His early years were filled with a love of sports-he played baseball in Lemon Grove Little League and earned the nickname "the blond bomber" as a standout on his high school basketball team.

Bob served honorably in the United States Army before beginning a distinguished career with the U.S. Postal Service. He held leadership roles as Postmaster in La Jolla, CA, Rockville, Maryland, and Louisville, Kentucky, where he was respected for his commitment to excellence. He was able to attend the Kentucky derby more than once as Postmaster. That was one of the highlights of living in KY. After retiring in 2004, Bob and his wife Anne moved to Las Vegas to enjoy a warmer climate.

In retirement, Bob embraced life with enthusiasm. He became an avid pickleball player while living in Las Vegas. He also enjoyed part time work as a courier between several casinos. (This usually included a free meal, which he enjoyed!!). He and Anne enjoyed visiting son Brian in Virginia and attending his grandchildren's many sporting events.

While living in Las Vegas, Bob became very close and involved with great-grandsons Matthew and Hayden. They brought him so much joy while together building Lego sets, playing video games and helping coach them in sports of all types. He had a great influence on them and was proud to see them grow into fine young men.

Prior to Anne's death in 2016, they made many trips back to San Diego. Together they enjoyed visits to the Del Mar horse track, walks along the Del Mar beach and relaxing at their timeshare which was very close to the track. Trips to San Diego included meals at Filippi's Pizza Grotto in Little Italy and Lido's in Lemon Grove, along with stops for a "good cigar" in Old Town. His trips also included mini "reunions" with his sisters and other family members. Bob really enjoyed staying connected with family.

Bob is survived by his first wife and good friend Roz Minett; son Brian Lochhead (Kristin); grandchildren Owen, Mason, Amelia, and Brice; stepdaughter Wendi Nutick; grandchildren Charles, Brittany, Rebecca, Stephen and Elizabeth; great-children Matthew, Hayden and Brielle; sisters Carol Vasquez, Joan Romero (Dennis), and Debbie Steuck (Tim); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anne in 2016. In accordance with their wishes, Bob's ashes were placed alongside Anne's in Las Vegas.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
