Robert Myers Obituary

Robert Ellsworth Myers Junior was born in San Diego, California, on December 24, 1938. The second child and first son of Bob and Gwen. He lived with his parents and sisters Dorothy and Edith in Ocean Beach, attending Ocean Beach Elementary, Dana Junior High and Point Loma High School, where he ran track and cross country, and finally San Diego State University, where he met his first wife, Sinclair Buzzell.

He worked throughout his life, starting with delivering the shopping news around Ocean Beach, then helping his father at Myers and Stuart Mobil station in OB. After he and Sindy had their two daughters, Jennifer and Robin, he began working for Western Electric, installing telephone offices. When the company transferred him out of California, the young family moved to Manitou Springs, Colorado in 1965.

Bob and Sindy divorced in 1969, and in 1970, Bob married Priscilla Ann Larson and became a devoted stepfather to her three children, Shelly, Pamela and Kevin Wilson. In the late 1970s, Ann gave birth to sons Philip and Robby.

Bob installed phone systems and maintained microwave towers all over Colorado and several other Western mountain states for Mountain Bell, which later became Lucent Technologies (AT&T). he put many miles on various cars and even a motorcycle crossing the plains and occasionally traveling by helicopter into the mountains. He retired in 1999 after 35 years of service.

Bob and Ann divorced in 1995 and Bob reconnected with his former wife Sindy at their daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner that same year, eventually remarrying in 1997. After his retirement, Bob returned to Ocean Beach where he and Sindy cared for his aging parents until their deaths in 2001 (Bob) and 2005 (Gwen). He and Sindy moved into his childhood home, where Sindy died in 2018 and he lived until his death from cancer.

Like his father, Bob loved the outdoors. As a young man, he was a member of the Sea Scouts. He was an avid walker, runner, skier, body surfer, and naturist, spending hours hiking, swimming, and playing volleyball at Mountain Air Ranch in Colorado, walking on Blacks Beach, and hiking in the desert where he had a trailer at DeAnza Springs in Jacumba.

In his 86 years, Bob traveled to many places, including Egypt, the Amazon, Hawaii, Alaska, Jamaica, Aruba, and Europe. He was most impressed with Budapest.

Bob loved cars, dogs, Padres baseball, Broncos football, ice cream, and his children and grandchildren. He leaves a legacy: Shelly Wilson and Randy Salmont, Jennifer Waters and Steve Carruthers, Pamela Wilson, Robin O'Donnell, Kevin Wilson, Phil and Amber Myers, Rob and Sarah (Yauchzee) Myers; Robinson, Rebekah, Emily, Bri, Jade, K, Niamh, Raiden, and Maeve. He joins his parents, Bob and Gwen, wives Ann and Sindy, sister Edith, and Grandchildren Christopher, Abigail, and Micah in death.

No church service is planned, but the family will have a celebration in his memory in Ocean Beach in June and all are welcome. Please reach out if you wish to join us.

My dad was a very special man. He was always helping us and others. He always referred to me as his baby girl because I was the youngest of four girls. And the middle child of seven with three older sisters and three younger brothers!!! I will miss him deeply!!!
