David Reda Obituary

David Rudolph Reda
Beaver Falls - David Rudolph Reda, 79, formerly from Beaver Falls, PA died Thursday, January 7, 2021 in his home in Las Vegas, NV. He was born in Beaver Falls, PA and was the son of the late Rudolph and Theda McCoy Reda; he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Louis Reda. David graduated from Beaver Falls High School, class of 1959 where he had been an outstanding football player. He went to Indiana University, Bloomington, IN on a football scholarship. Upon graduating from IU, he enlisted in the Naval Officers Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. He then moved his family to Virginia Beach, VA where he served on the USS America during his four-year enlistment.
He taught physical education at Beaver Falls Senior High School for several years before becoming the owner of Darlington Lake. He held jobs in sales, construction and subsequently became immersed in the family business, Theda Reda Travel Service of New Brighton, PA. Later, he moved to Las Vegas, NV where he worked as the supervisor of the Sportsbook at the Monte Carlo Hotel and spent quality time with his parents before their passing.
After he retired, he enjoyed spending as much time with his children as he could. His greatest joys were being with his family, laughing, eating, telling stories, traveling and playing cards. He loved rusty nails, reading history books, doing crossword puzzles, and watching the Steelers play. His family loved to tease him about his affection for Coca-Cola (never-ever Pepsi) and the fact that he would not eat in a restaurant that didn't offer whipped butter for his pancakes. He never got tired of hearing his children sing "You are My Sunshine" or listening to his favorite song, "You Make Me So Very Happy" by Blood Sweat & Tears. The one thing all of his friends and family could count on was hearing his voice during his annual St. Patrick's Day phone call; he would go through his entire phone book and call everyone in it just to wish them a happy day. He enjoyed warm weather over cold, driving instead of flying, and old movies more than new. David was fiercely loyal, an animated story teller and could always find something to laugh about, but most of all he loved his children and his sister without condition.
David is survived by his three children: Darcy Allen (John), Wimberly Reda Doran, and John P. Reda; his grandchildren, Jason Euler, Adelaide Reda, and Jaxson Reda; his sister Denise Reda; his nieces, Sarah Spalla and Rachel Sempf; his great nieces and nephew; and his longtime girlfriend, Roberta (Jitters) Blackwood in addition to his many lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the summer in Beaver Falls, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name, may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

David and I graduated at BFHS in the class of 1959 but we met long before that in Little League baseball. He was a gifted athlete, especially playing center on the BFHS football team and in several events on the track team. He gave me some very good advice during the lunchtime breaks we had at school and I will always have the greatest respect for him.

When I met David and Pappy, forty years ago, in Shanghai, China, he exemplified his life meaning of “Honor Bright”. This became an important paternal standard for my young son James.
He loved his own children so much! The stories that he shared about each one of you, - Darcy, Wim, and John, were priceless! He also got some good ones, in on Denise, too.
His loyalty to his extended family, and friends was insurmountable. He liked to try and emulate, Lionel Richie’s song “Easy”, as a mantra of sorts. Of all the colors of the rainbow, he liked white daisies the best!
St. Paddy’s will never be the same, absolutely, one in a million! Erin go Bragh - And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand!
