Frances Waters Obituary

Frances Waters

Frances Waters went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 2, 2021. She was born on January 21, 1930, in Dawson, Texas to Willie and Thelma (DeMoney) Bruce. At a young age she moved to Waco. Frances trusted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 13 at Oaklawn Baptist Church. She graduated from Waco High School, and then attended Baylor University where she met N.A.Waters, Jr. They were married and had 2 sons, Nathan Bruce Waters and Norman Ragan Waters. She graduated from Baylor in August 1954 and began teaching in Waco. In 1957 the family moved to Nocona where she continued teaching until 1990.

Frances spent much of her life volunteering and helping others. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she worked in VBS and the children's van ministry. She was also a member of the Friends of the Library and spent many hours working in the literacy program. In addition, she delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. She was also active in the Maids and Matrons club and served in many capacities, including as Pioneer District President.

In 1991 Frances was named Woman of the Year by the Nocona Chamber of Commerce, and she received the Distinguished Volunteer of Nocona award in 1998. The Masonic Lodge also presented her with the Community Builder award.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her 2 brothers, Wayne Hogan and Kenneth Hogan.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Nathan and wife Mary of San Marcos and Norman and wife Barbara of Nocona and daughter-in-law Martha Miller of Nocona. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Jason Waters and wife Renae of Nocona, Sarah Dillon and husband Mike of Cibolo, Sally Stanley and husband Jeremy of Corpus Christi, Christina Harrington of Terrell, OK, Benjamin Waters and wife Julie of Coppell, and Bonnie Hubbard and husband Cody of Decatur.

She also had 16 great grandchildren, Austin, Rowdy, and Bailey Waters, Zach and Sadie Dillon, Peyton Stanley, Josh, Daniel, and Juliet Waters, Caiden, Maggie, Aaron, and Allison Hubbard, and Kobe, Kelsey, and Konner Harrington.

Special thanks go to Cherry Street Village for the loving care they provided.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or the Nocona Friends of the Library.
