Gertrude Griest Obituary

Gertrude M. Griest, 93, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away while surrounded by her loving family at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, O. on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, after a brief period of declining health.
Born Jan. 15, 1916, in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Walter Exton and Annabelle (Shanks) Page.
Gertrude was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area, having been a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1934. She later furthered her education by obtaining her diploma in practical nursing from the Post Graduate School of Nursing in 1962 and spent many years caring for patients in several area nursing homes including Dove Nursing Home, the former Valley Manor, Hennis Care Center in Dover and Roahrig Nursing Home.
In addition to her nursing career, Gertrude was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Midge) Brainerd of Navarre and Mrs. Rusty (Karla) Grandison of Uhrichsville; 13 grandchildren, Eric Ueltschy, Lori Burdette, Kara Lankford, Mike and Matt Ueltschy, Michelle Weber, Karl, Karen, Russell and Jimmy Grandison, Janel Swonger, John F. Brainerd II and Jessica Griest; 19 great-grandchildren, Molly, Nicole, Justin, Andrew, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Logan, Jordan, Mitchell, MacKenzi, Cory, Matthew, Emily, Kaitlyn, Brianna, Aaron, Hallie, Cade and Payton; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, as well.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Delbert Davis; second husband, Karl Griest; sons, John "Boody" and Lloyd Griest; daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Harold "Shotgun" Ueltschy; two sisters, Mildred Staley and Neva "Teny" Affolter; and two brothers, Lloyd and Harold Page.
A longtime member of the 11th Street Church of God in Uhrichsville, Gertrude served her congregation for many years as a Sunday School teacher and youth group leader.
In keeping with her wishes, Gertrude has been cremated without a public visitation. A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Earl Miller, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 15, in Uhrichsville's Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the 11th Street Church of God in Uhrichsville.

Don't know if you remember me; we went to school together and I was at your house once or twice when you lived on the west side. Take care. Linda Mishler Terry
