HERMAN MANGON Obituary

Herman H. "Teeter" Mangon

91, of Dennison, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2020, after a brief period of declining health. Born February 1, 1929, to the late Benjamin Joseph and Rose Melanie Mangon of Dennison, Teeter remarkably lived his entire life in the same house, which at one point had to be moved up the street to accommodate the building of U.S. Route 250. Graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1947, he proudly served his country during the Korean War in a transportation unit of the United States Army. After the war, Teeter was employed as a block operator for the railroads, but perhaps his most famous job over the years was as Dennison's "handyman". Immensely skilled, Teeter was always willing to help others and share his talents with the community. The epitome of service above self, he was a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of the VFW, American Legion and National Association of Retired & Veteran Railway Employees. Teeter never knew a stranger and his infectious smile, kind soul, and genuine care for people will be dearly missed. He was a man whose faith and family meant most to him and who left a deep impression on all he came across.

On February 23, 1957, he married the former Twyla Jones, with whom he would spend the next sixty-three years and raise six daughters. He is survived by Twyla; five of his six children, including Christine (Joel) Giannobile of Dover, OH; Cindy (Rob) McCarty of Grove City, OH; Faith (Dan) Bailey of New Philadelphia, OH; Mary Beth (Phil) Gora of Orchard Park, NY; and Melanie (Jeff) Ridenour of Hilliard, OH; son-in-law, Hugh Evert; eighteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with another one on the way. In addition to his parents, Teeter was preceded in death by his nine siblings and his beloved daughter, Teresa Evert.

Father Tom Gardner will celebrate a Funeral Mass on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 1:00 PM in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM on Monday at the church. Those wishing to watch the Mass live streamed can view it on the funeral home's Facebook. All guests are required to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Guests not staying for the Mass are asked not to linger and exit the church. The family suggests that any donations in Teeter's memory be made to either the Immaculate Conception Parish, 206 N. 1st Street, Dennison, OH 44621, or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Though I wasn't a close personal friend of Teeter's, he was always "around" in my life. I went to school with his daughter, Theresa, and his daughter Melanie is married to my cousin. I remember Teeter as always being such an integral part of the Dennison community. He seemed to know everybody and everyone knew him. He had such a quiet getlemanliness about him, and he always had a kind word and a smile if you came into contact with him. He was a good man of faith, a man of service to others, and just an upright kind of a guy. The kind anyone would be proud to call husband, father, or friend. So to his wife Twila and all their daughters, I'd just like you to know I'm very sorry for your loss. Our community has lost a good man, but Heaven has gained another saint and prayer warrior for us. My deepest sympathies and prayers for the family. May Teeter rest in peace and may you all be blessed by the comforting love of Jesus. God bless +

Twila and family, our deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have known Teeter all my life. He ran around with my brothers, Louie, Bob and Butch Green. He would always tell me how ornery my brothers were. Brian and Toni ( Green ) Hillyer
