James Garrett Obituary

James D. Garrett
80, of Santa Clara, Calif., formerly of Byesville and New Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday (July 29, 2014) at Palo Alto VA Hospice. He was born May 7, 1934 in Dover and was the son of the late Floyd and Margaret (Merdert) Garrett. Jim served in the United States Army - Private First Class in 1955. He attended Cambridge High School class of 1953. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, and corn hole. He retired from Guernsey Industries - Guernsey County Board of Mental Retardation and Development.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne M. Garrett, whom he married May 12, 1956; two sisters, Judith Garrett and Jane Ann Harper; a brother, Jerry Garrett. He is survived by a son, David (Donna) Garrett of Columbus; three daughters, Jody J. Blackford of Columbus, Barbara (Larry) Gawaldo of Santa Clara and Linda Garrett of Santa Clara; four grandchildren, Jaclyn (Steven) Payne and Ashley Garrett, both of Columbus, Nicholas and Andrew Gawaldo of Santa Clara; one brother, John "Jack" Garrett of New Philadelphia; two step sisters, Janet Kirk and Jeannette Hill of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday (August 9th) from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Rost officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
