Joseph Ruffini Obituary

Joseph Albert Ruffini, age 86, of Uhrichsville passed away on Feb. 13, 2010, at his daughter's residence in Adena, O.
Born Dec. 3, 1923, at Uhrichsville, O., Joe was the son of the late Silvia and Adella J. (Gasparetti) Ruffini.
On May 29, 1943, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country until Jan. 29, 1946, where he received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Ribbon W/2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a rifleman having served in the 303rd Signal Operations Battalion in the European Theater of operations for 11 months. He was a messenger having delivered secret messages to radio operators to be transmitted all under combat conditions and at night.
Joe was employed at the Pennsylvania Railroad for 15 years and at Associated Grocers in Dennison for 30 years. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Joe enjoyed fishing and sports, especially watching the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
Joe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl D. and James Hildebrand of Adena, O.; one grandson, Nathan (Colleen) Hildebrand of Martins Ferry, O.; one sister, Florence Berni of Dennison, O.; sister-in-law Lillian Ruffini of New Philadelphia, O.; "Sister"-in-law Norma Jean (Milan) Borojevich and their family; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; a special friend, Janice Colvin; and his canine companion, "Kati."
In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise Ruffini, who passed away Sept. 11, 1994; one sister, Mary; and five brothers, Lawrence, Louie, Johnnie, Floyd and William.
Funeral services for Joe will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home Inc. at Uhrichsville, O., with the Rev. James Hildebrand and the Rev. Henry Mooney officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia, O., with the Tuscarawas VFW Post 7943 conducting military graveside services.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at the funeral home.

Cheryl and Jim,
I just got a phone call tonight telling me of the loss of your dad. I am so sorry I missed the obituary.If I had known, I would have been there for you. I usually look up obituaries on my computer. I must have not gotten on the computer on the days it was in the paper.
You have my sincere sympathy. Your dad was a great guy. I saw him last at the funeral of Jason West at Grace Church. I will always remember the good days when we were young and I spent time at your home in Uhrichsville. God bless you.
