Roger Cline Obituary

Roger A. Cline 1954-2016
age 61, of Beach City, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2016 surrounded by his family and friends. Roger was born on Oct. 14, 1954 in Monroe County. He was the son of Mildred (Jerri) Moore and Forrest (Pete) Cline. Roger was a 1972 graduate of Skyview High School. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the U.S.M.C. where he served 7 1/2 years, including a tour in Vietnam. While in the Marines, Roger worked as an Engineer and Staff Sargent. Roger worked at Western Branch Diesel (formerly Ray C. Calls) for 23 years, then left to become a Teacher at R. G. Drage, where he was the Heavy Truck/ Diesel instructor for 15 years. He was past commander of the Navarre VFW Post 5047 and current Quarter Master at the post. He and his wife formally owned the Beach City Amvets for 11 years. Roger was an Honorary Colonel for the Kentucky Derby, as well as a member of several area clubs. He was catalyst in getting changes made for the state's Vocational teachers, and was featured in the New York Times as well as several magazine articles. Roger was known as someone you could always count on, and who would give you the shirt off his back if need be. He made huge impacts on the students he taught at R. G. Drage, and on anyone who knew him.
On July 9, 1983, he married the love of his life, the former Jody Hartline. They would have celebrated 33 years this year. Together they had two wonderful children: Justin Cline (Amber Osmar) of Navarre, and Laura Cline (Jared Durant) of Navarre. His children were his pride and joy, as well as his grandson, Clayton (Champ) Felts. Roger is also survived by his sister, Donna (Bert) Snyder of Minerva; sisters -in- law Mary Hershberger and Libby Taylor of New Phila, and brother -in- law Bob Hartline of Strasburg. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews, a cherished family member Jordan Wilson of Navarre, and many, many friends and acquaintances. Roger is proceeded in death by his parents and his brother.
In keeping with Rogers wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Family and friends will gather at a Memorial Service at a later date. "In honor of Roger, gather in the garage with friends, crack open a beer, tell a few jokes, and hunt for feral cats."

I have so many memories of Roger. The last time we actually "visited" was at the Game Day over iced teas. One of the funnier moments was when we gave him and Jody a ride home from the VFW...in the late fall...in the back of Steve's pickup truck. Steve and I will miss him so much. Rest In Peace dear friend.

I really hope that Mr Cline really knows I really appreciate all the opportunities he had gave me not only in school but for a life time. His time that was given to me will last just that long. I am truly blessed to have met him and been a student of his. Again the Cline family has been in my prayers. "Class of 2010"

He was a good friend to the whole family.

As the Junior Girls Advisor at the VFW, I will forever be grateful to his kindness and love for the Jr Girls. He never hesitated to give help when it was needed and always did so without hesitation. He knew the importance of teaching our future generations about the importance of our Veterana. Thank you Roger for always being there for us, there has never been another that has been so respectful to my girls! You will never be forgotten! There is a special place in heaven for guys like you!

Love, Jenny Best and the Jr Girls

Class of 2013

Steve Stoner

June 21, 2016

Mr. Cline was a great man. He put up with a lot as our Diesel Tech teacher for the Class of 2013, as I'm sure he did for everyone else he taught. But he also showed us the basics to get us somewhere in our field. And though I didn't know him well outside of school, inside that garage I'd like to think of him as a friend, as well as our teacher. I promised I'd buy him a beer when I turned 21, and I'm sad to say I never had the chance. So to you Roger, and your family, "If it ain't tight, it ain't right." One thing you said that we'll never forget. Oh..and I'm the one that hid Robby's phone in the chemical locker. Cheers buddy.

Mr. Cline was an exceptional teacher who always went above and beyond for his students. But he was more than just a teacher, he was a mentor who treated people all people with dignity and respect. Mr. Cline taught much more than diesel mechanics. He taught lessons in life values - patience, kindness, and compassion - which will live on through the lives of the students he touched. Thank you, Mr. Cline, for lessons learned.
