Jay B Bishopp

Jay B. Bishopp, 78, of Sheldon, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Sheldon Healthcare Center in Sheldon.
Jay was a longtime resident of Sheldon having graduated from Sheldon High School and working in the Sheldon community for over 40 years.  He was a lifetime member of the Sheldon Township Fire Department where he served as Chief for many years.  He was a projectionist at the Sheldon, Kentland and Watseka Theaters over the years.  He was a Telegrapher for the Milwaukee Road and was an avid train enthusiast for his entire life.  He joined his father and grandfather in the cash grain business after his marriage and worked in the grain and commodities businesses for most of his working career.  Many of you will remember him on WGFA radio in the morning.  He was a member of the Sheldon Church of Christ. 
Jay was born in Watseka, IL on November 6, 1937 to Barton and Virginia Bishopp.  He was married to Louise McCallister on April 30, 1957 who preceded him in death on August 23, 2013.  Together they ran the Bishopp Hardware Store in Sheldon for many years.  Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Jay is survived by his two sisters, Ann Bishopp and Mary Hardesty (husband Steve) and one uncle, Douglas Verrill.  Also surviving Jay are his three sons, James (spouse Michael Labek), Daniel (wife Cristina), and David (wife Deonna), along with five grandchildren, Tabatha Scott (husband Randy), Jordan Bishopp (wife Jaime), Dorian Bishopp (wife Meridith), Christine Bishopp, and  Cle'tse Searle (husband Glenn III).  Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon.  Burial will immediately follow at Sheldon Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour before the services from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
