First in Line to Help Anyone who Needed a Hand
MOHAWK/HERKIMER, NY - Mr. Carl L. Kalem, age 77, of Mason Road, Mohawk, beloved husband of Carol (Dinehart) Kalem, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, February 6th, 2021 at FoltsBrook Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation following a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Carl was born on February 13, 1943, in Amsterdam; he was the son of the late Sam and Phyllis (Lesa) Kalem. In 1962, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Dinehart, in California. Carl was a skilled machinist who formerly worked at Williams Tool, Utica, as well as Chicago Pneumatic and Bendix Aerospace.
He was an avid gardener and loved to work outside. Carl was the first in line to help anyone who needed a hand.
He is survived by his cherished family, including his wife of 58 years, Carol Kalem; his children, Cheryl Neal and husband, Mark, GA, Catheryn Gallagher and husband, Jon, CA, Christopher Kalem and partner, Tina Jacopelle, Ilion and Carl Kalem, NJ. Carl is also survived by his siblings, Ronald Kalem and wife, Kathy, of California, Phillip Kalem, of High Desert and Marcia Granger.
Carl's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the FoltsBrook Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for all of their compassion and care. The staff at FoltsBrook showed the Kalem family tremendous love and unwavering support.
Carl and his family's care have been entrusted to Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman Road), Little Falls, 315-508-5131.
Memorial services for Carl will take place at a later date when COVID-19 conditions improve.
