Carol Vrooman Obituary

Carol Jean Vrooman 1938 - 2017
MOHAWK - Carol Jean Vrooman passed away at the Alpine Nursing Home, Little Falls, on September 2, 2017 at 4:15 PM after a long and difficult struggle. At the time of her passing, her immediate family was at her side.
Carol was born in Cooperstown Bassett Hospital on June 3, 1938, the daughter of the late George and Mary Van Denburgh. During her younger years, she attended Bible studies and Sunday school on a regular basis at the Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown. She was a graduate of the Cooperstown School System, graduating with the Class of 1956. On July 28, 1956 ,she was married to Norman Vrooman at Christ Episcopal Church and experienced 61 years of a dedicated loving relationship.
She was a person who was totally committed to being an excellent housewife and mother to her children. She loved nothing more than having her family around her as the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren became reality over the years. She also had a love for children outside of her own and was a Cub Scout Den Mother for a number of years. She always made sure that she took the Cub Scouts on many trips to places of interest that she considered educational for them and was influential in the development of many youngsters that grew up in Mohawk, NY, during the 1960's and 1970's.
Carol is survived by her husband; two children, Bradley Vrooman, of Middleville and Robin Gross, of Mohawk; one brother, George E. Van Denburgh; five grandchildren, Kristy Vrooman-McIlwain, Jeromie J. LaBarge, Dustin Gross, Josh Gross and Matthew Gross; six great-grandchildren, Jeromie J. LaBarge, II, Ethan LaBarge, Austin McIlwain, Gavin McIlwain, Adelynn McIlwain and Connor Gross. She was predeceased by one sister, Gale Van Denburgh-Capece; and one great-granddaughter, Baby Abigail Gross.
A private family and friends Memorial Service will be held for Carol at Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown, beginning at 2 PM on September 9, 2017.
The family has asked that any donations, in Carol's name, be made to Mohawk Valley Ambulance Corps (MOVAC), PO Box 431, Mohawk, NY 13407.
Our special thanks to Dr. O'keefe and staff at Alpine for the wonderful care you afforded Carol during her stay with you. We all miss her a great deal.
