RICHFIELD SPRINGS, NY - John Sadlon, age 96, of Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born May 29, 1919, in Little Falls, son of the late John and Anna( Martin) Sadlon; as a young boy his family moved to Richfield Springs. He was a graduate of Richfield Springs Central School. Upon graduating, he proudly served in the US Air Force, during WW II, and was commissioned 2nd Lt. as Senior Flight Surgeon at Big Spring, TX.
On November 12, 1949, he was united in marriage with Mary Hrynda in Little Falls. They shared a loving and devoted union of 67 years. They settled in Richfield Springs, where they raised a family and established a business in real estate and insurance. John had served on the NY State Assessors Association, was a VA Appraiser, and Chairman of the Otsego County Democratic Committee. During his career, he was a member of the American Legion Post #616, Richfield Springs, Richfield Springs Lion's Club and the Richfield Springs Lodge #482 Free & Accepted Masons. In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling with his family, spending winters in Florida and was an avid golfer. John will be remembered as a happy, caring gentleman, who was kind to all. He will be truly missed by his loving wife, family and many friends.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Hrynda) Sadlon; son, Ronald Sadlon, and his dear friend, Maureen Clark; two daughters, Cheryl Soule, and her husband, Richard, and Jeanne O'Brien, and her husband, Bill. Along with his children, he leaves eight grandchildren, Jeremy O'Brien, and his wife, Suzanne, Bryant Soule, John Soule, Mitchel Sadlon, Jacelyn Kelly, and her husband, Ryan, Kayla Saldon, and Cassie and Carly Sadlon; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Soule, Aubrianna and Ali Gage; along with several nieces and a nephew.
The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Tuesday, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. A Service of the Burial of the Dead from the Book of Common Prayer will follow at 5:00 pm in the funeral home. The Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector, of St. John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will be in Lakeview Cemetery, at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Friends of Bassett. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
