Lifelong Ilion Resident
ILION, NY - Mrs. Kathleen A. "Kathy" (Haggerty) Hilts, age 72, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer, following a long illness.
She was born on March 23, 1946, in Ilion, daughter of the late Edward and Marion (Cristman) Haggerty and educated in Ilion schools. She was united in marriage with William Hilts on August 1, 1970; he passed away on September 6, 2012.
Kathy had a deep love for family first, but also served as a "neighborhood mom" for many. She will also be remembered for her quick wit, spunky attitude and her absolute love for country music. She prided herself in being a friend to all, always uplifting peoples' spirits.
Survivors include her three beloved sons, Chris Abeling and wife, Jacky of Ilion, Kirk Hilts and wife, Jamie of Ilion and Ryan Hilts of Mohawk; five adored grandchildren, Brett Hilts, Madeline Helmer, Hayden Hilts, Emalyn Hilts and Jeweliana Wilson; sister and brother-in-law, MaryJane and Chuck Guile; and sister-in-law, Sheila Haggerty, all of Ilion; numerous Hilts family inlaws, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald, Edward and Robert Haggerty.
In keeping with Kathleen's wishes, there will be no calling hours. However, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Graveside Service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, commencing at 11 a.m. on Monday, September, 10, 2018 with Anthony Fragapane of Hospice Care, Inc., officiating.
Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman Road) between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131 has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Valley Health Services, Herkimer and Hospice Care, Inc. for their kindness and compassion.

I am so sorry to read that Kathy has passed. I had no idea she had been sick. I shall always remember her as the little girl sitting on the couch on Orchard St when I would stop in your house to get you for school or whatever. She always had such a nice smile and was so friendly. May she rest in peace with your brothers, parents & her husband. I will remember you all in prayer. Think of the good times. Jean (& Bob)

I took care of Kathy on 11 to 7 shift. She became family. Every night as I came in , it was 2 fresh glasses of ice water. We laughed. She would wake up and say Diana, Diana I would hear yell out my name . Ty. Them in the am . We had this little thing every other day , I would wash her hair. . Her jokes and she would sing . She will be missed . Love u . <3 Rest in peace.
