Abraham Sperber Obituary

Sperber, Abraham ALBANY, N.Y. Abraham Sperber passed away on September 15, 2008, peacefully, with family by his side at St. Peter's Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born December 8, 1908 in Passaic, N.J. to Nathan and Fannie Sperber. He moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn in his early years and also lived in the Bronx as a youth. Mr. Sperber was a graduate of Boy's High School, College of the City of New York and Brooklyn Law School. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. Abraham worked in private practice and as an employee of the City of New York. He moved with his family in 1961 to Albany to work for the NYS Attorney General, Department of Law, Real Property Bureau, retiring in 1978. Abraham was a member of Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias in Albany. He was also a member for nearly 50 years of Temple Israel in Albany, N.Y. Survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 72 years, Gertrude of the Massry Residence in Albany; also survived by sons, Mark (Linda Forenzo) of Colonie, Lewis (Merle Schaffer) of Albany; grandsons, Joshua of Loudonville, Eric of Albany, Michael (Megan Austin) of Fairport, N.Y. and great-granddaughter, Katelyn of Colonie. Services will be held at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home Chapel, 180 Washington Avenue Extension in Albany on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Massry Residence, 182 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203 or a charity of your choice.
