Alfred Bove Obituary

TROY Alfred Bove, 67, of Carla Lane, Brunswick, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Albany Medical Center with his wife, Anna and his children, Maria, Deanna and David by his side. Born in Maenza, Italy, he was the son of the late Pericle Bove and Elgisa Macci Bove and loving husband of 38 years to Anna DeCurtis Bove of Brunswick. Mr. Bove graduated high school in Italy and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Alfred worked for 32 years at the Norton Company as a machinist, retiring in 1996. He was well-liked by his peers and respected for his work ethic, talent and sense of humor. He believed in and was very active in the Machinist Union at Norton where he held many offices throughout his career. He was a longtime member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, Norton Retirees Association and took pride in his volunteer work with the United Way over the years. He also played soccer in the Italian Soccer Club of Troy and earned the reputation for playing great defense. Throughout his adult life, in his spare time, one of Alfred's favorite pastimes included making wine that, to this day, is broken out for many family gatherings and celebrations. He always enjoyed working around the house, gardening with Anna and was very handy and could fix anything. He was a true craftsman when working with wrought iron and made beautiful railings for his own and many others' homes. Alfred enjoyed the outdoors with his brothers and family. He loved to hunt for deer and pheasant, camp and just walk in the woods. This love of the outdoors is something he has passed on to all of his children and will likely be seen in the grandkids as they grow up. Rumor has it that while fondly remembering the family camping trips, all agree that rain usually was a part of the equation but that, as families do, the best was made of every outing, usually ending in laughter and many lifelong memories. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Troy. A man of family and long-standing traditions dating back to his childhood in Maenza, Italy, Al was a man who thrived in his family. He always provided for his wife and children and lived to see them begin their own families as he did with Anna many years ago. Alfred is survived by his loving wife Anna DeCurtis Bove, they were married May 29, 1965; his loving children, Maria Bove (Ellen Taussig) of Voorheesville, David A. Bove ( Patty) of SanCarlos, Calif., Deanna J. Vessella (Mark) Hamden, Conn. Within the last year, he was blessed with two precious gifts: a granddaughter, Olivia Vienne Vessella of Hamden, Conn. and a grandson, Jake David Bove of SanCarlos, Calif. Al is also survived by two brothers, Guglielmo (Bill) Bove (Monika), Piero Bove (Enza), both of Brunswick; his sister, Ella Givney (late John) of Pittstown; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 8:45 a.m. Saturday from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 109th St. and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Church, Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. Memorial donations to The Eddy Daybreak Program, 2256 Burdett Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 would be appreciated. For directions and guest book please visit: www.mcloughlinmason.com

Dear Anna and Family,

I am so sad about Alfred's passing and that I didn't get back to Troy one last time to see him. Every time I talked to him he was so excited about coming out to see me. I remember all to good times we all had together. My only consolation is that he is in a better place now. I think there was a big reunion in Heaven Tuesday.

Love to you and the family

Gloria
