Alfred Shuman Obituary

Shuman, Alfred
COLONIE - Alfred P. Shuman, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 5, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Boston, he is the son of the late Sidney and Marion (Silverstein) Shuman.
Al proudly served our country in The United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He served on the U.S.S. Nautilus, which was the first nuclear powered submarine in The United States Naval Fleet. He was onboard when they performed their first under ice submersion under the Arctic Circle, a memory he was very proud of. After serving, Al went on to work as an Engineer for G.E. for more than 30 years, until his retirement. Al will always be remembered by his family as someone who loved to cook, was a social butterfly, was well traveled and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Rose Shuman. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, who was killed in the Vietnam War.
Those wishing to remember Al in a special way can make memorial contributions in his name to, Congregation Ohav Shalom, 113 Krumkill Rd., Albany, N.Y. 12208.
Funeral services for Al will be held graveside on Tuesday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m., at Ohav Shalom Cemetery, 1626 Western Ave., in Guilderland.

Rose,
Faith and I were saddened to hear of Al's passing. Like Larry and Bette Root, I miss our lunches together. Al was a talented and experienced colleague in a great group back in the good old days of Product Service. But more than that, he was a great friend who provided help and support when I needed it and, for that, I am forever grateful. - Jim and Faith
