Allan Gentile Obituary

Gentile, Allan
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Allan Gentile, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Born in Schenectady on October 12, 1946, he was the son of the late, Alphonse and Hilda (Pizzone) Gentile.
Allan attended Mount Pleasant High School and graduated with a degree in mathematics from Siena College. He was hired right out of college by IBM and was employed there for over 30 years. In 2003 he retired from IBM but continued consulting to keep his mind sharp.
In 1967, he was married to Suzette Sutherland. The two had four children together and lived in Saratoga Springs for 35 years until Suzette's passing in 2003. Al was lucky enough to find a second great love in his life, Kathy (Coughlin) Gentile. Al and Kathy entered "Phase 2" of their lives together in Boca Raton, Fla. where they fully embraced their semi-retired life. Al was an avid photographer and loved traveling the world with Kathy and his cameras capturing their travels together and creating slideshows. You can see many of his prints proudly displayed in his home and he even had some of his work used by Nikon in their camera instruction books. Al loved music but mostly Jazz music. He was a lifelong drummer and played in many bands throughout his life.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Coughlin) Gentile; his children, Karen (Shelley) Gentile, Christopher (Carey) Gentile, Matt Gentile and Chad (Vanessa) Gentile; his stepchildren, Jennifer (Bruce) Matzer and Brian (Erika) Coughlin; his 14 grandchildren, Brandon, Madeline, Emma, Piper, Josephine, Juliet, Harrison, Howard, Henry, Jacob, Joshua, Shannon, Amara and Kieran, all who brought him great joy.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. A funeral home service will be conducted at 1 p.m. followed by burial in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, 150 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Tunnels to Towers Foundation or The American Cancer Society can be made in Allan's name.

I am going to miss Allan's larger than life presence. I will always remember the first day I met Allan he made me feel very welcome even before I moved. I will miss Allan, his presence, his special hurricanes :), his passion for taking the photographs. Every time I see the lighthouse photograph in my house I will think of Allan fondly. I will cherish the good times that we had in our community and grateful that I had an opportunity to know him. My deepest condolences to the family and much love to you Kathy.
Love, Navatha

I'll always ever know him as Big Al. He was a very welcoming man and endured some silliness from myself when I'd visit and hang out with Chad. He'd treat you like family and find a way to put a smile on your face. He'll be missed.

Allan was a good and generous man. I'll miss his political perspectives and passionate debates. Even more so, we'll miss watching him holding hands with Kathy walking down the street. Kathy, he left us with a lot of good memories and we are forever grateful that he loved to take pictures:)

Al taught me a lot during our tenure at IBM Albany - go with the flow, we’ll figure it out, we’ve had some issues so how about 5-Sigma?, and the glass is neither half full nor half empty it’s twice as big as it needs to be. Thank you for the life lessons. It was an honor. God bless.

One goes through life meeting many people - some stand out as special from the others......Allan was one such special person ! Al was a character....and....Al had character. Al's great sense of humor was only surpassed by the loyalty, kindness, and love he directed to his friends and family. His friendship will forever be a dear part of our lives.
