Allan G. Gibbs

HALFMOON Allan G. Gibbs, 90, of Halfmoon, died Monday, January 26, 2004 at his home after a long illness. Born on August 31, 1913 in Waterford, the son of the late LeGrande and Lillian Gibbs and the husband of the late Eleanor F. Mahoney Gibbs. He lived in Halfmoon most of his life. Mr. Gibbs worked for the Erie Barge Canal in the 1930s, Cluit and Peabody in Troy, the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, was a Cohoes police officer in the late 1940s and was a steel worker at Alleghany Ludlum Steel for 25 years, retiring in 1975. Allan was an exceptional swimmer and trained for the Olympics in the early 1930s. Survivors include a son, Brian A. Gibbs of Cherry Valley; a grandson, Damian Gibbs of Halfmoon; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Wednesday 12 noon in Catricala Funeral Home, Inc., 1597 Rte. 9, Clifton Park. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Memorial contributions to American Heart Association.
