Grim, Alta
WATERVLIET - Alta Helen Grim, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, on June 13, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Lebanon, N.H., with her devoted daughter by her side. She was 83 years old.
Born on July 26, 1941, in Watervliet, N.Y., Alta was the cherished daughter of the late Alta M. (Randall) and Harold H. Hughes. She was raised in Watervliet, and graduated from Watervliet High School.
Alta married Kent Eisentraut (deceased) and relocated to Ohio, where they raised their two children. In the mid-1990s, Alta made her home in Arkansas, drawn to the beauty and calm of the Ozarks. In April of this year, she moved to N.H. to live with her daughter, a decision that brought her comfort and closeness in her final months.
One of seven siblings, Alta shared a deep bond with her brothers and sister, the late Harold Hughes, Anne (Hughes) Smith (late Clarence), Elliot Hughes (late Bonnie), the late Clifford Hughes (wife Julie), Gorden Hughes (wife Teresa), and Lisle Hughes (wife Jill). Her family was her foundation, and her love for them was steadfast.
She is survived by her loving children, Douglas Eisentraut and his wife Hanane of New Carlisle, Ohio; and Karyn Miner and her fiancé Scott Willette of Swanzey, N.H. She was a proud and doting grandmother to Zachary Partin (wife Sandra) of Azle, Texas, and Ashley Partin (fiancé YC Lindsay) of Berthoud, Colo. Her joy extended to her great-grandchildren, Marilyn and Riley Partin of Azle, whose visits and stories always brightened her days. Alta is also survived by many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Alta had a gentle spirit and many talents. She was an avid plant lover who found peace and joy among flowers and greenery. Her skillful hands created beautiful sewn pieces, and her kitchen was often filled with the sweet and savory aromas of her delicious cooking and baking. Alta had a particular fondness for her West Highland Terrier, Maggie, her loyal companion for many years. It brings comfort to know that Maggie will be laid to rest beside her.
Alta's passing followed a brief illness complicated by Myasthenia Gravis, but she met her final days with dignity, courage, and the comfort of family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m., at Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, Latham, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Alta will be laid to rest at Albany Rural Cemetery, surrounded by the peace of nature she so loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Alta's memory, to Ozburn Boarding and Grooming, 1280 Bellview Rd., Pocahontas, Ark. 72455, in gratitude to Novelene, who lovingly cared for Alta's dogs over many months. Condolence book and memorial page at
