Andrew Vosburgh Obituary

LATHAM Andrew E. Vosburgh of Latham, beloved husband of Eileen Ryan Vosburgh for 56 years died Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the Community Hospice Inn. Andy was the loving father of Marylou Vosburgh of Lake George; two sons Michael (Topper) and his wife Barbara Vosburgh of Lake George and Andrew (A.J.) and his wife Ricki of Latham; his two cherished grandchildren Max and Lexi Vosburgh; his brother Dr. John Vosburgh of Rhinebeck; his sister Ruth Whitman of Bennington, Vt.; and also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Vosburgh and sister Mary Gidley. He was born in Utica, the son of the late John and Magdalina Alsheimer Vosburgh. He was raised in Latham and after graduating from Watervliet High School he proudly served his country and community in the U.S. Army. He was a staff sergeant in the 536th armored division during World War II serving from 1943 until after 1945 in the European Theater. He was the recipient of two bronze stars, one for the Battle of the Bulge, the American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his discharge he went into the gasoline, auto repair and towing business and established the Andrew Vosburgh Service Station in Latham in 1946. He was a life member and past president of the Latham Fire Department and member for over 50 years. He was a life member of the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Firemen's Association. He was captain of the former North Colonie Ambulance squad for over 10 years. Andy was proud to have been one of the key figures instrumental in forming the first townwide network of emergency medical services. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 7411 in Boght Corners, the American Legion in Lake George, the Latham-Colonie K of C #3394, the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 and past president of the Latham Lions Club. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 10:15 from the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Andy may be made to either the Colonie EMS Benevolent Association, P.O. Box 11076, Loudonville, NY 12211 or the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 would be appreciated.
