Anna Bindell Obituary

ALBANY Mrs. Anna F. Bindell, beloved by her family, friends and community, died Friday, June 24, 2005 following a long illness. She was born in Albany in 1918 to the late Samuel and Freida Wolberg. Anna attended the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. She served as a dedicated nurse in many locations including the Albany Medical Center. During her studies she met her devoted husband, Milton. They married in 1937, a marriage that sustained them both until the end. Anna also taught at Albany High School where she was an inspiring teacher who encouraged students from all walks of life to better themselves and society. She was past president of the local Hadassah Chapter and led many educational and fund raising activities in support of the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. In addition, she was an active member and supporter of Temple Israel, Chabad Lubavitch of the Capital District and the Congregation Beth Abram-Jacob. In her later years, she volunteered and taught at Maimonides Hebrew Day School, leaving an indelible legacy of love upon her students and fellow educators. A skilled seamstress, Anna designed her trademark Grandma Annie Pillows. Hundreds of these were lovingly distributed to the sick and anyone in need of special attention. She was the sister of Dora Moroze of N.J., the late Louis Wolberg and the late Harry Wolberg, both of Albany. Anna was the loving mother of Marion Bernstein and her husband David of Melbourne, Australia, Barry Bindell and his wife Paula of Denver and Jay Bindell and his wife Binah of Albany; the caring grandmother of Chaya Doba Hurwitz and her husband Aaron, Yaniv Bernstein, Benyomin Bindell, Netanya Light and her husband Avraham, Aviva Hazan and her husband Chaim Meir, Nechama Bindell, Noa Bernstein, Fraida Bindell, Shalom Bindell, Mendel Bindell and Menucha Bindell; and adoring great-grandmother of Nava Light, Tila Hurwitz and Chaya Hazan. Traditional mourning observance is being held at her home, 172 Hackett Blvd. until 10 a.m. Thursday, June 30. Anna led her life with dignity, integrity and love. Her magnanimous spirit and love knew no boundaries and touched everyone that came in her path. When she nursed, she nurtured; when she taught, she taught by example; when she led, she served. To know her was to be blessed. Contributions in the name of Anna Bindell can be made to Alliance for Homebound People, 16 Crimson Oak Crt., Schenectady, NY 12309.

My heartfelt sympathy to Marion and her family on the passing of her mother. I remember her mother and father from my high school days. They were very caring and loving people. May God bless you all.
