AVERILL PARK - Anne Marie (Onderdonk) Wark, 76, of Averill Park, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 24, 2025, after a long illness.
Anne was born on January 31, 1949, in Albany to the late David R. And Hilda (Woodling) Onderdonk.
She graduated from Columbia High School in 1967 and then attended Albany Business School before embarking on her career as an administrative assistant. She started her journey with NYS obtaining a position as an Agency Program Aide with NYS OMRDD in March of 1977, staying with that agency until she retired in January of 2004. At that time she took on the very important job of "Full-Time Grandma," to assist with raising her youngest grandchildren, a job she excelled at. Anne was present at every important event for her grandchildren as they grew into adulthood. Anne had many interests but spent much of her time and energy as a member of Community Congregational Church of Clinton Heights where she held many important positions including Church Treasurer, Choir Member, and most importantly to her, Sunday School Teacher. Anne tirelessly supported the church and was a mentor to many as she led by example in her life. She had a great faith in Christ and believed in love and tolerance as she followed the teachings of Jesus. She was often found at church working with young people and assisted in the confirmation of many young people. In her free time she enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and Tiger Woods playing golf.
In March of 1980, she married the love of her life, Richard A. Wark Sr., to start their 44 year marriage before his passing in May 2020. She is survived by her children, Dena (Vinny Catricala) Peckham, Bruce Hankle Jr., Jeff (Terri Quell) Wyskochil, CSM(R) Richard A. Jr. (Cathy) Wark, Michael (Marie) Wark, Karen (John) Plekan, Nancy (Rick) Cure, Cindy (Scott Krueger) Huett. She had many beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Kylie, Marc (Colleen), David (Karla), Elizabeth (Shane), Richard A. III, Kristopher, Bethanie, Joshua (Stav), Sabrina, Megan, Michael, Joanne (Gus), and Danny (Stacey). She had many cherished great-grandchildren, Tallon, Riley, Gia, Bobby, Emma, Kylee, Logan and Camden; and great-great-granddaughter, Evelyn. She is survived by siblings, Nancy (George) Dahl, David (Carol) Onderdonk, Susie (Dirk) Hencke, Debbie Onderdonk; and predeceased by her brother, Robert N. Onderdonk.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. William Caramore of Albany Med Internal Medicine and Dr. Scott Beegle from Albany Med Pulmonary Medicine for the amazing care they provided throughout Anne's life and illness.
Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, March 28, from 4-7 p.m., at Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home Inc., 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home the following day March 29, at 12 p.m. Interment will be at New Rural Cemetery.
