Armand Marando Obituary

Marando, Armand Rosario
ALBANY - Armand Rosario Marando, 86 years old, a former employee with Bendix Corporation, and worked in Protective Services with St. Peter's Hospital, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Armand was born in Ardore, Reggio Calabria, Italy on February 20, 1938. He was born to his parents Ferdinando and Maria Marando. He is predeceased by his brother Giuseppe.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Marando (Romano) of Albany, N.Y. He is also survived by his two sons, Joseph (Christine) and Michael. Also, his two granddaughters, Antonia Louise, and Giulianna Camille, whom he cherished very much.
Armand was 17 years old when he made the journey from Italy to New York City, and eventually Troy, N.Y., aboard the ship Cristoforo Colombo.
He took a job at the Bendix Corporation (later it became Honeywell) in Green Island, where he worked for 37 years. He was a member of Local UAW International.
Armand also proudly worked at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany in Protective Services for 40 years. He loved this job, and he enjoyed talking to the many people he came across every day at the hospital.
He was the kindest, gentlest, and most humble man that you will ever meet. Many people will say that about their loved ones, but for Armand, he truly would be there for his family and friends any time they needed him.
He lived his life with decency, hard work, and always respecting and caring deeply for the people he loved. Those traits trickled down to his children, which helped them become the men they are today.
Armand was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a passionate Ferrari Formula One racing fan.
Armand was a member of the Italian American Community Center in Albany for over 40 years. There he was very active, cooking at various events, as well as a member of the Men's Bocce League.
The Marando family is eternally grateful to the nurses and medical staff of St. Peter's Hospital and St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, who were so kind to him in his last weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Armand's family Tuesday, September 10, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, N.Y. 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
