Audrey Duncan Obituary

Duncan, Audrey D. DELMAR Audrey Dolores Duncan passed away on September 10, 2012 after a short illness. Audrey was born in New York, New York, to Linford and Lilla and was raised in Jamaica, West Indies. She returned to the United States after graduating from high school. She attended Hunter College in New York City before marrying the love of her life, Conrad Duncan. While raising their children, Audrey took on the duties of a U.S. Army officer's wife in the United States and overseas, making lifelong friendships during these tours of duty. Audrey enjoyed hosting bridge club parties, ladies teas and taking on many charitable endeavors as part of her duties. When Audrey and her family moved to Delmar in 1975, she began selling real estate, working with several local real estate offices. She retired in 2000, to care for her husband, which she did for more than 10 years. Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends, and she especially loved to host Thanksgiving dinner. Audrey adored flowers and plants. She loved spending hours creating beautiful gardens outside her home and lovingly tending the many plants inside her home. She enjoyed the watching and wagering on the thoroughbreds running at Saratoga and was an avid and accomplished bowler for more than 40 years, earning dozens of trophies in the mixed doubles and women's leagues. Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband, Conrad; her son, Michael; her infant daughter, Linda; her parents; and her brother, Ralph. Audrey leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved daughters, Patricia Holliday (Rhoderick), Denyce Duncan Lacy (Thomas), Leslie Fottrell (Kevin); daughter-in-law, Rebecca Duncan; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her adoring four brothers and two sisters and many cherished friends and neighbors. Family and friends may call on Friday, September 14 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 15 at 9:30 a.m. St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. www.applebeefuneralhome.com

Denyce, Tom, Zade and Audrey -- Tom and I were deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your great mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Although we saw her only a few times over the years -- at your house for dinner, at the Girlfriends -- each time it was a blessing to be in her presence. May the good Lord and your wonderful memories comfort you and may her spiritual presence continue to bless us all.

Denyce, Tom and Family: We expect our loved ones to be with us forever; we forget that they are only on loan to us for a season. Audrey's season has come to an end; God has called her home to tend the beautiful gardens in her heavenly home. May the memories you made with Audrey the mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend sustain you during this difficult time. My prayers are with you all.
