Barbara Brettschneider Obituary

Brettschneider, Barbara
TROY - In 1952, Barbara Brettschneider married the love of her life, David Marshall, in front of thousands on the CBS show "Bride and Groom." It is with great sadness that we say farewell to her at this time.
Barbara Brettschneider Marshall passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
To some, she was Barbara or Mrs. Marshall, but the names that most defined who she was were "Mom, Grandma, and GG."
While Dad spent his professional life delivering babies, Mom delivered unconditional love. Being a spouse or partner to one of her children or grandchildren qualified one to become a recipient of this love. With the addition of 11 great-grandchildren, 38 of us have felt the power of that love.
Mom, in her 90s, still was aware of all 38 of us. With a phone call to her we could be updated with everyone's jobs, schools, illnesses, and milestones.
Barbara was born in 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Louis and Lena Brettschneider. The family relocated to Willimantic, Conn. where she met her David. She attended Connecticut Teachers College and spent her early years as an elementary teacher. Following David's career, Robin was born in Cooperstown, Wendy in Charleston, Larry in New York, and Beth in New Jersey. The family moved to Troy in 1963. She took her last breath in the home that she and David have shared for almost 60 years.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Norman and Jerome.
She is survived by her husband, David; children, Robin (Barry) Lindenberg, Wendy (Ralph) Berry, Laurence (Christine) Marshall and Beth (Jeffrey) Marfurt; grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) Lindenberg, Ryan (John DeSmidt) Lindenberg, Rachel (Kenneth) Esman, Justin (Laura) Gray, Joshua (Meghan) Gray, Travis (Andi) Gray, Rebecca (Robert) Riley, Kendra (Michael) Singleton, Brett Marfurt and Samantha (Colin) Baird; great-grandchildren are Sydney, Fiona, Marshall, Lue, Cameron, Lena, Conor, Rory, Carter, Bobby and William.
Barbara's funeral will be officiated by her grandson, Rabbi Joshua Gray. It is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, at Temple Berith Sholom, 167 3rd Street, Troy, N.Y. Mom was a former Lamaze teacher. We would appreciate donations to Planned Parenthood in her memory.
