Barbara Mitchell Obituary

Mitchell, Barbara A. CLIFTON PARK Barbara A. Mitchell, 67, of Merrall Drive entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy surrounded by her loving family. Born May 28,1941 in Colonie, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Emily Scaringe Ramundo. Barbara was a 1960 graduate of Colonie High School. She was employed at the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance prior to having her children. She became a homemaker and later was employed as a data entry operator for the former Garden Way in Troy. Barbara was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Crescent. She was a truly devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be truly missed by her family and many close friends. Survivors include her loving husband, John F. Mitchell whom she married on February 11, 1961; her loving children, Tamara (Gary) MacDonald of Troy, Justine Mohrmann of Clifton Park, Dennis J. (Lee) Mitchell and Daniel J. Mitchell; her precious grandchildren, Christina and Emily Mohrmann, all of Clifton Park. Barbara is also survived by her brothers-in-law, James (Delores) Mitchell and Lloyd (Joyce) Mitchell, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Wednesday morning at 8:15 a.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, followed at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Crescent where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation of Northeastern New York, 23 Computer Dr., Albany, NY 12205 or to the American Diabetes Association, Capital District Chapter, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Barbara.

I have a lot of good memories about our family friend Barb. She made our neighborhood an extended family. I was always welcomed when I rang the doorbell. My mother enjoyed Barbs company. They always talked about their health problems. It was a support system between two friends. She even thought of me when I had my brain surgery and gave me a gift. She gave me my favorite perfume! She will be missed as a thoughtful and caring person. Mitchells, if you need to talk let me know! Barb and Ward are probaly sharing the neighborhood news! Like the old times! Barbara was a wonderful friend who enriched the lives of all who knew her. She had a welcome smile and tasty tidbit for all who came to her door. That smile remained through all the hospital stays and illness she endured. She was an inspiration.

My sympathy goes out to you all for the lost of Barbara. She was a good person and I know how Danny, feels right now. Because, when my grandparents pass away it was hard to believe that they left and so I know how he feels. So Danny, don't think she is gone because, she not she is looking down on you right now and know you care and miss her. So keep your chin up and keep leaving and keep praying and remembering all the good times in the past. That what keeps me going.

Justine, Mr. Mitchell and family,

I was so sorry to hear that Barbara had past away. I will too, always remember Merrill Drive and our times with Justine at the house and our times with Justine trying to find something to do over the summer!!! Mrs. Mitchell was always willing to let EVERYONE over to swim in the pool! As I am a stay at home mom for my children I understand the sacrifice our moms made back then for us and hope that our kids will see just how much we loved them and wanted them to have there moms at home. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Justine, Mr. Mitchel and family,

I too will remember the wonderful summer days your mom gave us opening her home and pool to the whole gang of us. Those memories of my childhood on Merrall Drive are so special and are engrained in my mind forever and your entire family is a big part of them. It was a great sacrifice of your mom as well as all of ours being "home" for us each day to give us such a perfect and special childhood.
