Barbara Sheehy Obituary

Sheehy, Barbara M.
ALBANY - Barbara M. Sheehy, 86, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 5, 2023.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Anne Carey Martin. Barbara is survived by her children, Lisa Payne (John Clausen), and Rocco Oppedisano (Christine). She was the stepmother of Jay Sheehy (Barbara), Billy Sheehy, and the late Patrick Sheehy. Barbara was the wife of the late John J. Sheehy; and grandmother of Jocelyn Shumway and Mattingly Sheehy.
Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Vincentian Institute in Albany and after many years of legal secretarial work, ended her career with the N.Y.S. Facilities Development Corporation. Upon retirement, Barbara's favorite activities involved spending time with her children, especially on Lake George in Lisa's boat or at Rocco's surrounded by dogs. She loved all animals and had a special place in her heart for Basset Hounds. She also loved cards, video poker and champagne. Barbara had great stories of the past which she would share over frequent dinners at The Barnsider. She enjoyed watching football and was a huge Boston Red Sox fan. Barbara was passionate about feeding her wild birds and squirrels and made her children promise to keep feeding them throughout the winter.
Although her death was sudden and unexpected, she was ready to go and be reunited in Heaven with her husband Jack, whom she adored. We like to believe that they are there now laughing, drinking and dancing.
Funeral services will be held privately.
Those wishing to remember Barbara in a special way may send a contribution to the Northeast Association of the Blind at Albany, 301 Washington Ave., Albany, NY, 12203.

So sorry for your loss. Barbara and Jack were good friends of my dads. Ron Brizzell. Many summer afternoons they would come over to my dads and spend time by the pool. Barb also would play cards with my sister Barbara O´Neil.

Thank you, Barbara. For becoming a wonderful neighbor to my mom and dad when the moved in next door. You guys became fast friends. It made their transition from downstate so much more pleasant for them. My family will always remember you as a good neighbor and good person. Rest in Peace.

Barb and I are cousins. We didn't get to see each other much over the years as we were both caught up in raising our families. Last year we got together with some of our other cousins at Bountiful Bread in Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany for a "cup of memories" and to work on our Martin Family Tree. Barb will be missed but I know she is holding hands with Jack and smiling. Love you more Barb!

Lisa I'm sorry to hear that your mother passed. I remember when my mom lost her sight you sent a device to help her knit. I never forgot your kindness May God comfort you in your grief
