Beatrice Feinstein Obituary

Feinstein, Beatrice Dunn CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. Beatrice Dunn Feinstein died on February 27, 2022, in Coral Springs, Fla. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1924, Beatrice was the daughter of Nettie and Morris V. Dunn. She married Julius Feinstein in 1953. During their 57 years of marriage, they lived in New York City, Albany and Florida. Beatrice was a very capable lawyer. She was one of a small number of women who graduated from NYU Law School in 1946, and practiced law in New York State for several decades. She proudly worked in the office of counsel to the Speaker of the Assembly, represented the Department of Agriculture and Markets, and served on the Board of the Legal Aid Society of Albany. She was an engaged, active citizen who cared deeply about the environment, consumer protection, and government reform causes. She admired Ralph Nader's work, was a long-time supporter of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, was a big fan of Pete Seeger's efforts, including the Sloop Clearwater, to help people rediscover the beauty and importance of the then-heavily polluted Hudson River, and was long active with the League of Women Voters. She also cared about America's role in the world. For decades, she participated in the Foreign Policy Association's "Great Decisions" program. She greatly enjoyed traveling to, and learning about, other parts of the U.S. and the world. Beatrice was a member of Albany's Temple Beth Emeth for half a century, and was involved with Hadassah and the Brandeis National Committee's Capital District chapter. She is survived by her two sons, Jay Feinstein (Frank Volpe) of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Robert Feinstein (Jessica Elfenbein) of Columbia, S.C.; three grandchildren, Nora (Yoav Schaefer), Susannah (Alex Friedman), and Micah; great-granddaughter Dahlia Jules Friedman; and nephew, Ronald Liebshard. Services and interment will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville, on Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, the League of Women Voters of Albany County, or Congregation Beth Emeth Social Action Fund.
