I met Bob when I began working for the Civil Service Dept. when I was 17 years old. I was a typist in the Files Section. Bob had a great sense of humor and was like a "father" figure to me. The Files Section went out for our Holiday luncheon and Bob was concerned about whether I had anything to drink. (I had turned 18 in Nov. and at that time the legal age to drink was 18.) Of course, I did try a drink just to be sociable. Poor Bob was worried that I was drunk on just one drink. In later years, it was a source of laughter when we looked back on the "good old days".
I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends. He was a wonderful person and great to work with. I will always remember him fondly. He would rush out on Monday mornings and enthusiastically ask " are we all full of vim and vigor and ready to go, go, go ???" Most of us weren't and he would just chuckle and go the files to get whatever he needed. He was a true gentleman and would explain some of the technical decisions so we clerical workers could understand why they were made. He was patient in his explanations and never looked down on us. He will always be among my fondest memories of my career in Class. & Comp.which lasted 37 years.
