To Nancy and the family of Brian,
I am so sorry for your lost. Brian was truly an inspiration to me and one of the greatest people I have ever met. Although I only knew Brian for a short time he was someone I will never forget, and can hear myself saying for years to come "I knew this guy that...; and everything he started he...."

Though I only knew Brian through the brief contacts we had during the past few months, it was already evident to me that Brian was truly a good man. It does not surprise me to see so many kind and loving words being written in his honor. I am sorry that my time in knowing him was so short, and I hope that I was able to help him in some way during that time.

My condolences to the family and to Nancy, who, like Sweeney, I only met one time. In that short visit, a dinner with mutual old friends, Emily and Mark,in Anchorage, I found myself drawn to Sweeney, a fellow working man with the soul of a poet. I'm happy we had a few hours together. I wish there had been more time for us. And, of course, much more time for him.

Dear Sweeney Family,

Brian was my student when I was a first year teacher at Berne-Knox. Thirty years have come and gone, yet he remains one of my favorite students ever. Brian was truly one of the kindest, most gentle people I've ever known and I am so deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I imagine he's left a gaping hole in your lives, and I'm so sorry for your loss.

To the Sweeney Family;
I am so sorry for the loss of Brian. God broke the mold with him....

Brian, it took me a few days to even express words... Buck and Elmer ride no more.... some of the things we pulled off are legend (and probably felonies:). Bro, we`ll ride again in the Heaven`s (probably with a side trip to hell... just for the hell of it:)

Here's to a Brian, who gave me the grand tour of a cargo freighter and the port tavern on the same day. You were taken way too young. I'll miss your warm smile.. And as my granma used to say ... as she tucked me in to bed at night...

I love you. Rest in peace.

Dear Sweeney Family,
Brian showed me many pictures of you all and your beautiful house with its view and of your adorable little dog. I feel like I know you and I feel the loss of Brian. I only got to meet him briefly but living in a cabin for 10 days with him was a good crash course. He made me laugh. Boy did we laugh. He has such a kind and gentle spirit that I felt right away. I felt as though I know Brian before I met him because of Nancy. I am so grateful for the love he had for Nancy. I never saw her so happy and so loved in all my years of knowing her. I feel sad for her loss as well but gald for the love that was had and can continue to be rememberered. Please know that every time I am out on the Prince William Sound I will toss some token over in memory of Brian.

With much love and sympathy,

Emily, Mark, Ross and Lucy(the dog) Bass here in Alaska

I will miss Brian dearly- there are so many good times that are flooding my memory right now. What a special and lovely friend. The countless hours of laughter and times of ponderment spent. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I am a better person having known him.
He was my neighbor, my friend and so very often a true "partner in crime"
...there will always be a place in my heart for you, dear Sweeney!
Love you all the world-

Sweendoggie, you are going to be dearly missed by all your friends. I for one will miss your smiling face, stupid jokes, and silly trinket's you carried in your pocket. All that knew you will know what I mean. I can only hope that you are having a cocktail with my pop at the Sidedoor in the sky. Rest in piece my friend.

To the entire Sweeney Family,
I was sad to hear of Brian's passing. I have known your family since I was just a little girl growing up on Craig Lane and then Ridge Lane, over 30 years..hard to believe. Brian was a great man and he wil be missed by many. I will never forget when I brought Brian and Skid to my moms retirement party down at the post. I was pregnant and I couldn't get them to leave..they were having a grand ole time signing and dancing. Hold your memories dear and close to you. Heaven has been given another great guy...I can only imagine the reunion Brian is having with so many friends who have passed before him. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to call us. You are all in our thoughts.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Brian's family. He was a very special person and I am glad to say I have so many wonderful memories of Brian that I will cherish forever. Most of the memories are twisted and warped, just the way Brian would want it. Here’s to you Sweeney, a toast, you were a hell of a guy and you will be missed! Love Colleen

James and Family,
I am sorry for the loss of your brother, James a little something when our family lost one of our brothers.
To tribute to your kindness
In words is not enough
To tell of your caring
For me and others is wasting time
To a dear brother of mine
To bridge a gap so wide
As to let me into your heart
When I don’t even know mine

This tribute to you
My brother
My friend
My family
In love you conquer hate
And within these ugly times
You conquer them with beauty
This tribute to my brother ends
But always will remain true

Eileen, Len and family - I was shocked to hear about your losing Brian. He was a great guy and will be missed by many. My husband will be there waiting for him. Jack always liked Brian, maybe they can have a beer together. I always remember Brian's laugh, and good times on the Lake. I know what it is to lose someone so young. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I once knew a man named Brian
A true friend without even tryin'
His tales were as bold
As the jokes that he told
So I smile now thru all of my cryin'

My mind races with memories of you Brian, but your humor and your humanity stand out the most. You will be missed and remembered by all that had the privilege of knowing you. Happy Sailing, my friend. I love you.
