DUANESBURG - It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Burnetta E. Monaghan, 85, on the morning of Thursday, April 3, 2025, she was called home to Jesus, surrounded by her loving family. Burnetta was born in Albany, N.Y., to the late Thomas B. Sr. and Mary E. Smith. Her brother, Thomas B. Smith Jr., predeceased her. Burnetta is survived by her husband, John W. Monaghan Jr.; one son, John Monaghan (wife, Erin); two daughters; Jill St. George (husband, Joe), Nanette (husband, Tom); two grandsons, Derek Monaghan (wife, Ryanna), Joshua Wolcott; three granddaughters, Amanda Comstock (husband, James), Alyssa Monaghan, Rebecca Wolcott; four great-grandchildren, Jack, Riley, Cara and Xavier. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. Burnetta had a great love for her family and friends. She was her happiest hosting family Christmas Eve gatherings, being a part of everyone's birthday celebrations, encouraging her family to achieve their dreams and doing all she could to make her family feel loved and cared for in all the details of everyday life. She looked forward to her summer camping adventures with her son and family, yearly trips to Cape Cod to spend time at the ocean, and welcoming the fall season with her daughters at their girls' luncheon dates each year. No matter where she was or what she was doing, all those around her were filled with joy just being in her presence. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y. 12205. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10 a.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y. 12205. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery & Memorial Park, located at 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Albany, N.Y. 12205, following the Mass.
