BALLSTON LAKE - Surrounded by his family, Carl Howard, 91, peacefully passed away on the evening of October 10, 2025, at his home, in Ballston Lake, N.Y., after a difficult battle with cancer and dementia.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverly; his children, Craig (MaryLou) and Wendy (Charles); five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Carl was born on April 30, 1934, to Lee and Rachel Howard, in Northfield, Mass. After graduating from Amherst High School in 1952, he earned an Associate's Degree in Applied Science, Degree in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
In August of 1957, he married Beverly, in a little white church, in Leverett, Mass. They then embarked on a three week honeymoon, camping in national parks, en route to the University of Houston, where Carl created educational films. After moving back north to be closer to family and enjoy the change of seasons, he worked in the film department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, before joining the University at Albany, SUNY.
Eventually, he created Howard Productions, which afforded him opportunities to interview, film, and write about generations of luminaries. Carl loved capturing the arts and sciences through photography.
Our family will always treasure the many days spent together camping in Shutesbury, Mass., swimming off Cape Cod, and hiking through the woods of New York.
Carl will be laid to rest among the trees of Wildwood Cemetery in Amherst, Mass.
