CLIFTON PARK - Carl Edward Sauer, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush.
He was born in Kingston on February 4, 1943, and was the son of the late Gerard and Ida Jane Purdy Sauer. Carl was a lance corporal sharpshooter marksman and gunnery section chief with the 105 howitzer crew in the Marine Corps, stationed in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a 1964 graduate of Gorham Beauty School in Schenectady and was a hair designer owning Hair Designs by Carl. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers and had a love for music.
He was the beloved husband of Johanna A. Zukauskas Sauer, whom he married on June 22, 1965; devoted father of John Paul (Matt Notarnicola) Sauer of Cairo, N.Y. and Andrea Autumn (Philip) McGuire of Clifton Park; brother of Gerard Sauer, Robert Hotaling (Laura), Debra Jean Rocjer, and the late Thomas Sauer and Dawn Pilcher; and grandfather of Zoe Olivia and Philip John McGuire. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 18, at 12 p.m. in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
