Charles Fitzgerald Obituary

Fitzgerald, Charles Thomas VOORHEESVILLE Charles Fitzgerald of Voorheesville, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family. Charles was born in West Point, N.Y. to Elizabeth Skelley and Jesse Fitzgerald. He is survived by his wife Jean Fitzgerald of Voorheesville; two daughters, Adrienne Hirt of Ambler, Pa., and Audrey Connell of Cary, N.C.; as well as his grandchildren, Olivia and Alexander Hirt and Julia and Jeffrey Connell. He is also survived by his sister Margaret McDonald of Highland Falls, N.Y. As a young man, Charles served in the Army and was stationed in France. He was thought of by friends and family as a Renaissance man with varied interests and a zest for life. One of his many accomplishments was a remarkable career as an architect, primarily at the N.Y.S. Dormitory Authority, during which he had the opportunity to design many unique and important buildings. Later in his career, he focused on commissioning artwork to adorn such buildings. His other interests included art, music, dancing, tennis, golf, fishing, and countless other things. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and making people laugh. Those who were closest to him knew how much he loved life and the people around him. He will never be forgotten. A small private service was held on Sunday, August 8, 2021, to celebrate his life.

My deepest condolences. Uncle Charlie (that´s what I called him), was a rare breed, an accomplished architect that had many interests and a great sense of humor. I remember him introducing Jay and I to mountain bikes. I also recall telling Jay and I to get State Government jobs, to which we both did! Every time I ride my mountain bike, and collect my Pension check from the State of New Jersey, I will always think of Uncle Charlie! I think he´d like that. He will be missed!
