Charles Gilman Obituary

Gilman, Charles "Chuck" M. WATERVLIET Charles M. "Chuck" Gilman, 60, of 16th Street, formerly of Second Avenue in Port Schuyler, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 30, 2012, at his residence. Born in Troy, he is the son of Frieda Bauer Gilman of Watervliet and the late Charles R. Gilman and was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1970. Chuck served in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret from 1971 to 1974 and then served in the National Guard until 1978. Chuck retired from the Watervliet Arsenal, where he had been employed as a machinist for 25 years. In retirement, he was a contractor with Bennett Contracting in Albany. Chuck will be missed by his family and friends, especially those who knew him throughout the community in Watervliet. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and bowling in the Watervliet Arsenal leagues as well as the camaraderie of his fellow peers at BeeCee's and the V.F.W., both in Port Schuyler. He was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 729 in Watervliet. Beloved son of Frieda; devoted brother of Charlotte (late Patrick) Harrington of Lansingburgh, Clifford (Mary) Gilman of Cape Coral, Fla., Clinton (Judy) Gilman of Scranton, Pa., Coreen (late Michael) Russo Gilman of Watervliet, Camille (Al) Zouky of Advance, N.C., David Gilman of Averill Park, John (Cathy) Gilman of Stillwater, Frieda (Brian) Osterhout of Leesburg, Fla. and the late Catherine Hall, who is survived by her husband, Charles of Leesburg, Fla. and the late Caran Logan, who is survived by her husband, Steve of Lansingburgh. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a nephew, Mario Russo. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. (corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center, P.O. Box 8928, Albany, NY 12208, in memory of Charles M. Gilman. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Ave., Troy.
