Charlotte O'Donnell Obituary

O'Donnell, Charlotte
GUILDERLAND -
Charlotte Sylvia Hale O'Donnell, age 90, died peacefully at home, on April 21, 2025, after a lifetime of loving service. Born in Stevens Point, Wisc., she was the daughter of the Late Charles K. and Mary Rose of Lima (McCormick) Hale. Charlotte moved as a child with her family to Hamburg, N.Y. After high school, she graduated from college and in 1956, married John Francis O'Donnell. They had five children, moved from Buffalo to Guilderland, N.Y., in 1967, and enjoyed a loving 56 year marriage until his death in 2010. Charlotte had a rich and varied life, which included volunteer church work, social justice campaigning in support of women, and a fulfilling career in her chosen profession as Director of Food Service at the Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home. Charlotte's love for her family was the first star to guide her always. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild held a most special place in her heart.
She is survived by Ann Carroll (Michael), Mary Grondahl (Paul), Sheila O'Donnell, John O'Donnell (Julia) and Timothy O'Donnell; as well as her grandchildren, Raphael, Caroline, Callie, Samuel (Shannon), Jack and Mark (Kayla) and her great-grandchild, Oliver.
Jesus said, "Store up your treasure in heaven." All who had the fortune to be in Charlotte's life know the rich reward awaiting her there.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Madeleine Sophie Church. Burial to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, in Menands.

Charlotte was a caring, generous and loving person filled with a rare grace. I was so fortunate to call her my mother-in-law. She bestowed so many kindnesses on our lives and was a remarkable person. She was entirely selfless, the family matriarch, and the glue who held together all things familial. She will be greatly missed. We carry her memory in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, dear Charlotte. You are with your beloved Jack now. Thank you for showing us how to serve others and how to center family life.
