Chris D'Angelo Obituary

D'Angelo, Chris J. PITTSTOWN Chris J. D'Angelo, 63, a longtime resident of Boyntonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with his devoted family by his side following a short illness. Born on January 29, 1951, at the former Leonard Hospital in North Troy, Chris was the son of Mildred (Simonds) D'Angelo of Raymertown and the late Ralph J. D'Angelo, and the husband for more than 21 years of Lisa (Brewer) D'Angelo of Boyntonville, who also survives. Chris was a graduate of Tamarac High School. As a young man in the early 1970s, Chris began his career in the construction trades as a framer, and later as a plumber for the former Matzen Construction Company of Raymertown. In 1975, he founded and was the president of the Quest Plumbing and Heating Company, a general contracting and excavation firm working originally from his home in Boyntonville, and more recently from a larger facility in Brunswick. From 1977 until 1989, he also established and operated the former Energy Options store at Tamarac Plaza in Brunswick, selling and installing wood-burning stoves and heaters in response to the high cost of home heating and fuel supply shortages. As his businesses grew he was never more proud than when he was joined in their operation by his sons and daughter. More recently he partnered with his wife Lisa, in the operation of Lucy's Luncheonette, a food service truck that they built from scratch and enjoyed working from as cooks at many local fairs and area equestrian competitions. Never one to sit and relax, Chris enjoyed cutting firewood, camping, going to the casino with friends and the companionship of his dogs and horses. His smile, quiet sense of humor and his handshake or warm hugs are not something that will soon be forgotten by those who knew him. In addition to his wife, Lisa, and mother, Millie, Chris is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Gendron and son-in-law David of Eagle Mills; three sons, Christian M. D'Angelo and Crystal Newhouse of Eagle Mills, Jason M. D'Angelo and Carrie Eggleston of Schuylerville, and Kevin Groff of Wynantskill; a sister and sister-in-law, Patricia Foran and Mary King of Salem; a brother, Paul E. D'Angelo of Troy; his father-in-law, George "Wally" Brewer of Boyntonville; two grandchildren, Michael Gendron and Grace D'Angelo, both of Eagle Mills; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown, with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. At the request of the family, memorial contributions if desired may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps, 60 Parker School Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094. The D'Angelo family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to Dr. David Colletti and the doctors and nursing staffs at both St. Mary's and Samaritan hospitals for the excellent care and support during Chris' recent illness.

Dear D'Angelo family,
I knew Chris from school and he and Paul did some great construction work on my parents home in Center Brunswick. How could anyone not love that laugh and his great smile. A truly good man that I was proud to have known. Our hearts go out to all of you at this time of sorrow.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts
to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Dear D'Angelo family, my deepest condolensces. I moved into Boytonville in 1973, Tory Hill. Chris was always a great neighbor and friend in the community. He was good friends with my brother Rudy (Reynolds) and our close friends and neighbors, the DiMaggio's. It was a great neighborhood because of people like Chris. He took great pride in his home. I'll never forget all the work he did on his house. It was tremendous. He was always working. My thoughts and prayers are with Chris and his family at this sad time.

Lisa and family, while words cannot express the sadness you must feel and is felt by all who were graced by Chris, I pray you would find strength and comfort in the knowledge of the may lives he impacted. Little did I know what a great family and man I had moved next door to 9 years ago. I can't count how many times Chris thought of my family as his own, with gentle acts such as coming to warn of a big storm and so many other things only he would do. My wife, kids and I want you to know how important he was and how he will be forever in our hearts!
