Christopher Rickard Obituary

Rickard, Christopher
POSTENKILL - Christopher A. Rickard, 75 years old, of Postenkill, N.Y., peacefully passed away at St. Peter's Hospital on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, after a prolonged illness. His final journey into eternity was months and weeks long, allowing him and his closest friends to re-tell old stories, ask for forgiveness, give thanks, laugh, cry, pray, and say goodbye. His greatest victory in life was affirming his faith in Jesus and acknowledging his Lordship over his life.
He was surrounded by his only daughter, Hazel Gull; his only grandchild, Anna Bradford-Rickard; and his youngest brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Liza Rickard.
His most satisfying achievement in life was nurturing, protecting, cherishing, and preparing Anna for life without him. His greatest joy in death was his daughter, who always put a smile on his face, particularly in his final days.
Chris was always quick to lend a hand to those who needed one. Christopher was known by most of his friends as a lover of cigars, BMWs, and anything that exploded. He always had a home or decorating project that he was planning. Being unable to complete most of his projects, his closest and most ardent guardian, Lee King, always came through.
Christopher was an enlisted Army veteran, graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and was proudly employed for most of his adult life as a metallographer at Watervliet Arsenal. He was born in Rome, N.Y., and predeceased by his son Jan Rickard; father, Charles Arthur Rickard; and his mother, June Rickard Olney (Updike); both of Rome, N.Y.
His last wishes were to be cremated and to have no public service. As he passed away, with a usual glint in his eye and a smile on his face, he thanked everyone who shared in his life by continuing to say until his final breath, "I love you."

Rest in peace, old friend. Our many adventures in youth, I shall never forget. So many times death might have taken us, but we were spared. Say hello to our friends who preceded us and please leave a light on for me!

Deepest condolences. Chris was a great guy to work with. I have many fond memories of talking with him about different things at work. Though you always had to remember to not start talking to him too close to the end of the or you would end up leaving late

My deepest condolences to your family. I worked with Chris for many years and always enjoyed his wisdom and sense of humor. I live in the same town and would always get a chuckle whenever I'd drive by his house to see the funny antics of the dummy that he had staged in some kind of dangerous situation or other. He will be missed!

I worked with Chris and was always moved for his steadfast love to his family, ability to navigate through difficult times and dedication to doing what was right for those he cherished. I will miss our deep conversations while he always puffed away on his cigar. He helped me by always being there to listen, being a voice of reason and offered sound advice with a wisdom that only can be learned by going through the storms of life. Until that day old friend I look to see you in paradise alongside of the Savior we so both embraced.

Chris was such a genuine person, I am lucky to have met him and be his friend as well as coworker. Hard to summarize my thoughts, but the world so needs more people like Chris. My heart felt thoughts to everyone.
