Clement E. Viola Jr.

Viola, Clement E. Jr. NISKAYUNA Clement Viola, 87, passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2018, after experiencing a medical emergency at home. He was born on August 26, 1931, in Manhattan and was the second eldest of four children born to the late Clement Sr. and Jenny Viola. Clement lived in the Bronx for the first 34 years of his life. Before high school, he met the love of his life, Adrian Kranz, whom he would later marry on June 9, 1951, and with whom he enjoyed 62 years of marriage, until her death in 2013. In high school he was a standout gymnast and was widely recognized as an outstanding singer. In 1964, he moved to Schenectady with his family and was employed as a "safe cracker" for the Mosler Safe Company. But the largest part of his working career was spent as a teacher/supervisor at the Rotterdam ARC. Building on this role, he was also very active for many years in the Special Olympics Program. In retirement, he and Adrian had wonderful adventures traveling throughout Europe, the Caribbean and North Africa. Clement had a life-long love of learning across a range of subjects and was a voracious reader across genres. But his over-riding passion was studying, analyzing and playing the stock market, in which he was largely successful. But his greatest joy remained his family and friends, including family reunions, periodic visits, attending the Senior Citizen Supper Club, and following those he loved on Facebook. Clement is survived by his brother, Alexander Viola; by his sons, James (Linda) Viola of Clifton Park and William Viola of Niskayuna; by his granddaughters, Jennifer Viola (Felix Esquivel) and Jamie (Ryan) Obst, and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Fitzgerald and Johanna Downs; and by his sons, Thomas and Patrick. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 12, at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Services will be performed at the funeral home on October 13, at 10 a.m. followed by interment in the Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.
