Colleen Flynn Obituary

Flynn, Colleen
DELMAR - Colleen Flynn, wife of Thomas Flynn, passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, after a two year-long battle with complications from Glioblastoma.
Colleen was born on March 17, 1951 in Albany, N.Y., to Donal and Jayne Duffy Cummings. She was a 1969 graduate of Mercy High School, and a 1973 graduate of Niagara University School of Nursing. Her 40-year nursing career began at the VA Hospital in Buffalo, followed by the Albany VA, Ellis Hospital and the Teresian House. She then changed to public Health Nursing with N.Y. State, starting with Employee Health Services; and then N.Y. State Dept. of Health in the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control, in a number of capacities, from Refugee Health Coordinator, to Program Nurse for the Bureau.
Having been born on St. Patrick's Day to Irish parents, Colleen was proud of her Irish heritage; so much so that the whole month of March was for her birthday celebration, including attending numerous St. Patrick's Day events and parades in Albany, Boston, Dublin, Myrtle Beach, Savannah (not so good), and the granddaddy of them all, The N.Y. City St. Patrick's Day Parade over 20 times. Another sign of everything Irish were her two Irish wolfhounds, Michaleen and Finnbarr. Once the celebration ended, you would find Colleen in her yard, working on her flowerpots and gardens, where there would be colorful displays all summer long.
In addition to her husband, Thomas, she is survived by her brother, Emmett (Jill) of Albany; five stepchildren, Ryan of Canberra, Australia, Alan (Cindy) of Beacon, Meghan Wilborn of Montgomery, Kyle of Beacon, and Molly Trayah (Gary) of S. Burlington, Vt.; and 11 grandchildren, Alylai, Zaid, William, Charles, Astrid, Veda, Kellan, Aidan, Brendan, Norah and Dillon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 12, at 12 p.m., at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. The family will receive visitors at the church before the Mass from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In memory of Colleen's proud Irish heritage, please consider wearing something green.
Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, Tuesday, October 15, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Colleen's name may be made to: St. Thomas the Apostle Church; Equine Advocates, P.O. Box 354, Chatham, N.Y. 12037; or Operation Smile, P.O. Box 758588, Topeka Kan. 66675.
