Collette Formel Obituary

Formel, Collette P.
TROY - Collette P. Formel, 55, of Troy, passed away peacefully after a lingering illness on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, N.Y.
Collette was born on April 19, 1969, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of Michael Formel and the late Patricia (Norton) Formel. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1987, then attended Hudson Valley Community College for two years and received her bachelor's degree in gerontology at SUNY Brockport. Collette always had a special place in her heart for the elderly, so it only made sense for her to pursue a career path in that field. She was an Activities Director at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Home and the Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Albany for several years.
Collette had a beaming smile and infectious laugh that will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She had a quick wit and outgoing personality that drew people to her, laughing and joking with everybody she encountered. Collette was actually a certified clown, having completed a clowning course at HVCC and then becoming a member of Clowns of America International.
Collette had a style all her own and presented herself with class and dignity. Having survived a brain tumor at age 10, she persevered in all her endeavors with courage and determination, striving to be the best that she could be. She was headstrong, but with a sense of gentleness and kindness.
Collette was very passionate about her interests, which included: getaways and trips with Dan, arts and crafts, crocheting, cooking for her friends and loved ones, solving the daily cryptogram, and playing board games, especially Scrabble. She took her Scrabble very seriously!
Collette was survived by her life partner, Daniel Lewis; father, Michael (Carla) Formel; sister, Natalie B. Formel; brother, Michael (Alice) Formel; half-sisters, Veronica Moody and Rachel Formel; and niece Mikayla Formel.
Friends and family are invited to call Monday, July 8, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, N.Y., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m.

Collette was my friend & roommate senior year at SUNY Brockport. She was such a sweet girl & inspiration after battling childhood cancer. Its too bad we lost touch after graduation as I stayed in Rochester & she moved back to Albany. However I have many memories of her in that short year we were together. The first day I moved into our dorm suite she took my breath away with her amazing interior decorating abilities! Collette would dress up as a clown to entertain the children at the local Pizza Hut & then bring back pizza for her roommates. We had fun hanging out going to movies & clubs. Sadly graduation day was the last time I saw her! RIP dear Collette

We will always cherish the special times spent with Collette during our mutual visits to PA. Tim and his cousin Mary had so much fun baking candy-decorated cakes with 'Aunt Letty'! She was such a unique and beautiful person. We will miss her dearly.
