Conor O'Shea Obituary

O'Shea, Conor
ALBANY - Conor O'Shea, 37, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Conor was
born on December 3, 1986, in Albany, the son of Bonnie (Morrison) O'Shea and
Brendan O'Shea. He grew up in Slingerlands and attended Bethlehem Central
schools. He was drawn to athletics, and especially loved ice hockey. He forged
many lasting relationships with teammates and coaches in local youth hockey
organizations. As a goalie, Con stopped many a puck (and alas, saw a few get by
him). He continued to play the game he loved until a series of injuries compelled
him to hang up his skates and enjoy the sport on the big screens only.
Con attended Potsdam State University, and found employment in the field of law
enforcement. He served as a Corrections Officer with the New York State
Department of Corrections and Community Supervision until he was fortunate
enough to be accepted into the Albany Police Department, where he began his
career in 2017, and was appointed Detective in 2020. Con poured a great deal of
time and energy into his job and into the support of his colleagues on the force, to
whom he was devoted, and who in turn, returned that devotion.
Besides his loving parents, Con is survived by his older brother, Patrick (Jolene), of
Ballston Spa, and by many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves
behind his two furry friends, Molson and Finn, who will now spend quality time at
the family home.
Bonnie and Brendan wish to acknowledge the kindness, professionalism and love
shown by Con's APD family, Chief Hawkins, and Mayor Sheehan. The residents of
Albany are fortunate indeed to be protected by such considerate public servants.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Church
of St. Vincent de Paul, 900 Madison Ave., Albany, NY. The family invites all to a
reception in the church hall immediately following the service.
Donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204. (mohawkhumane.org)

I´m devastated to learn of Conor´s passing, and for his family. Conor was my teammate and a best friend from middle school through well after college. He was hilarious, a great friend, and just a genuinely good person. When I think of my youth, I always think of the O´Shea´s and the fun times I had with Conor. I´m heartbroken for this family.

We couldn´t have asked for better neighbors than you.
I remember when you moved in. And so many of my fond Ridge Road memories include you. Swing set, pond, pets. We love you dearly.
What a beautiful legacy Conor leaves.
"Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"
I offer you this poem that has brought me much comfort over the years.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

You are in my prayers daily.

Detective PJ O´Donovan (APD)

December 10, 2023

To the O´Shea Family,

I had the privilege and honor to work in the detective office with Conor for the last few years. Conor was a great detective but even more important he was a great person and co- worker. I can speak for all of us in the detective office, we are devastated by his passing. However, I can assure you his memory and legacy will live on through all of us telling Conor stories and talking about him routinely. Our job can take away a lot of time guys/girls can spend with their families. We deeply appreciate you sharing him with us. May he rest in peace.

Dear Brendan, Bonnie, Patrick, and kin,
I'm heartbroken to learn of Conor's passing. I have such fond memories of him playing (all boy!), singing, listening, laughing, and learning at Serendipity. He was a sweet charmer who brought lots of wonder, intelligence, and enthusiasm to every experience, and I so loved seeing the obvious love of your family that he brought to his group every day.He obviously grew to embody your values of service. May his memory be a blessing as you navigate the journey of mourning. Mary Neitzel
