David Follman Obituary

Follman, David P.
NISKAYUNA - David P. Follman, 49, passed away at his home peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Manchester, Conn. he is the son of Michael Follman and Eda Klinger.
David was a graduate of White Plains High School, Class of 1992, and would go on to obtain his bachelor's degree from Brown University and his master's degree from The University of California Santa Barbara. He was a brilliant engineer and material scientist who worked for Thorlabs.
In graduate school, David was an integral member of The Crooked Necked Giraffes softball team at UC Santa Barbara, a group that has created lifelong friendships. He was a writer, loved jazz music and had a razor-sharp wit.
David was an avid Yankees fan. But what he loved most of all was playing chauffeur to his children and cheering them on in all of their sports and activities.
David is survived by his loving wife, Jenifer Follman; beloved children, Sara, Isaac and Eli; his mother, Eda (Bernie) Klinger; his father, Michael (Deborah Robbins) Follman; his brother, Michael (Debbie Cheng) Klinger; his sisters, Rebecca (David) Stiles and Joanna (Alex) Wolff. He is also survived by many relatives and dear friends.
Those wishing to remember David in a special way can make memorial contributions in his name to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service for David will be held on Sunday, February 18, at 3:00 p.m. at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave. in Schenectady. To leave a message of condolence for the family online, please visit LevineMemorialChapel.com

To Davids Family - my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved David. I am a second cousin of Davids (my father Albert and his grandfather Ben were brothers) and was very saddened to hear the news about David as I had not learned about his recent illness. I didn't know David well and we had only met a few times over the years at bar mitzvahs, graduations and funerals. I did enjoy our brief conversations and was happy to learn he was going into and became a professional engineer. That was something we had in common (me a mechanical and he a materials engineer) and being about 20 years his senior I provided him some basic guidance on entering the profession and provided him my info should he have any questions or need anything. I believe we might have connected on LinkedIn at some point but otherwise we hadn't connected much over the years. I knew he was very smart from our brief encounters and had no doubt he would be successful both professionally and in life. I am so sorry for your loss and can only wish that Davids's memory will be a blessing to your entire family going forward.

I have the best memories of Dave, Jeni, Sarah, Isaac, and Eli meeting my family (Tami, Naomi, and Taliah) at Cold Springs Tavern for beers and tri-tip sandwiches, usually after picking up the kids from CBB. Jeni, Sarah, Isaac and Eli, we send you our condolences and our love.
