Deborah Ulrich Obituary

Loncto Ulrich, Deborah
SLINGERLANDS -
Deborah Loncto Ulrich, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of William F. Loncto Jr. and Gloria J. Loncto-Kruger. Debbie grew up in Niagara Falls, where she attended Madonna High School and graduated in 1970. Debbie attended S.U.N.Y. Albany graduating with a B.S. degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 1974. After graduation, she was employed by the N.Y.S. Senate Research Committee. She then was admitted to Albany Law School and earned a Juris Doctor Degree in 1982. While in Albany, Debbie was employed by the Carter Conboy Law Firm, Farm Family Insurance Company and Goldman Sachs Ayco. Debbie retired from Ayco in 2016. Throughout her adult life, Debbie maintained an active and adventurous life and shared these experiences with her many friends. She and her husband, Fred, enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing during their many Lake Placid and Adirondack trips. In the spring, they would hike on the trails and canoe on the lakes in the Adirondacks. Debbie and Fred also organized and led cycling trips, including the annual Block Island tour. Even as the years progressed, Debbie would continue with her outdoor activities as well as expanding her interests and knowledge. Debbie volunteered as tax preparer for Senior Citizens and was learning French and studying the history and culture of foreign countries that she and Fred visited. Debbie volunteered with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and had a special affection for cats. Debbie was an avid reader and participated in a local book club. She became skilled at mahjong and played often with friends. Maintaining her high level of fitness and activity, she enjoyed yoga, Pilates, aqua aerobics, bicycling, and kayaking. Debbie and Fred were avid travelers, taking trips to Africa, sailing in the Caribbean, and doing river cruises in Europe, among other destinations.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Fred W. Ulrich; siblings, William F. Loncto, Thomas (Denise) Loncto, Cindy A. (Michael) Rudge, and James R. (Penny) Loncto; as well as nieces and nephews. Many friends and colleagues are among the circle of people who knew and loved Debbie.
A celebration of Debbie's life will be held for relatives and friends in the spring. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204. Arrangements by Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Albany. I knew Deb from attending many Pilates, aqua aerobics and assorted exercise classes. Such a quiet and unassuming woman, I would not have dreamed that she was as accomplished as she was. I will miss her.

I will miss many things but especially our long walks on the rail trail. Next spring when the bulbs come out on Tabor Road you will be in my thoughts.
