Debra Fredericks Obituary

Fredericks, Debra ALBANY Answering the call of the Master on June 26 2014, Debra Fredericks (Cato) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Peter's Community Hospice. Debra was born on August 30, 1959 in Manhattan to the late Rudolph and Flecia Cato. Debra received her early education in Brooklyn. She graduated from Albany High School, class of 1977. Debra received her associate's degree in food service administration from Fulton Montgomery Community College. Debra held various job positions. She was employed at Friendly's Ice Cream restaurant as a supervisor, at the Albany County Probation Department as a clerk-typist, CDTA as a bus driver, and held numerous health care positions, the latter being a CNA for Maxim Health Care. Debra accepted Christ and became a member of Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion Church in 1976, where she participated in many church activities. In 1996, she married James Fredericks in holy matrimony. From this union, her blended family was completed with their four children, DeJuan, Shalanda, Jameela and Janiene. Debra Fredericks was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a social butterfly who was often the life of the party! She enjoyed playing cards, board games and doing puzzles with her family. Debra was a helper by nature and delighted in spending time with family and friends. A fan of photography, she loved being behind the camera as well as in front of it. Debra had a photogenic face. Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Flecia Cato; a brother, George Parker (Antoinette Goins), and adopted mother Ada Jackson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, husband James Fredericks and sister Diane Cato, both of Albany; brother Rudolph Cato (Leslie) of Parlin, N.J.; four children, DeJuan Cato, Shalanda Fredericks, Jameela Fredericks and Janiene Fredericks; five grandchildren, Khaliana, Shati and Shaniya Fredericks and CayArie and Z`navia Cato. Also a very special sister-like friend, Leslie Post; a longtime friend, Pamela Prince, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services for Debra will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 1 p.m., at Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion Church, 351 Livingston Ave. Viewing will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow, and may your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of Debra. The loss of someone so close is difficult to bear, and I share your grief. "Cato" is what I called her from the time I met her at Albany High School in 1974, we were inseparable. I am still your best friend, and I will always remember the times we shared "Cato". Sleep in peace my sister, I know your resting in God's arms now. Your friend, Pamela Prince
