Mrs Friedman was the best teacher that I ever had the privilege to learn from both in HVCC and my education beyond. Microbiology was challenging but her lessons still stick today because of the hard work necessary. She was a mentor and role model to me and many others and I was happy to nominate her for her award in 1997. I was shocked and saddened to only just learn the bad news. My condolences go out to Mrs Friedman's friends and family. Future students as well have lost a great and caring professor. I too will always remember her.

Tom,

I can't quite express to you how sad I am. I have been apart of you and Denise's life for many years. She was a wonderful person that had many aspects to her life. Her love of teaching, her love of amimals, road trips, and you! I remember Denise loved moose. You would drive all over New Hampshire so she could see her moose. Her love of life and the love for you always showed. We would share recipes as she was a great cook and shared a lot of laughs. Some about your cooking skills, but mostly about how much you and Denise worked well together. I will miss our talks. I am so sorry I didn't know about Denise's passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Tom and family of Denise Friedman:
We are Sisters of Saint Joseph, Sister Theresa (Tess) Wysolmerski csj and Sister Agnes Rose Burton, csj who were Denise's colleagues at The College of Saint Rose. We are writing to honor, to value, and to remember her life, as colleague and friend. Denise never left our hearts after she left Saint Rose.
We want to acknowledge to you the importance and the significance of her career at The College of Saint Rose and her bond of friendship with us and to say “Thank you, God" for the life of this professor.
Quietly reflecting on our days together at St. Rose we are reminded of the valued service she gave to our college community. We saw her as a scholar, a dedicated colleague, a curious blend of humanist and science expert with an unusual breadth of interests and a highly developed sensitivity to the superior qualities of "person" and “professor"
Denise's skills built a future for many students in the science world and there are many more from both Saint Rose and HVCC, unknown to us and yet to come, who will profit from her presence in their lives. She had an incredible talent for educating individuals both on intellectual and ethical levels. Although she left the College of Saint Rose after a few short years, she was never retired from our memories.
Tom, there is so little that words can do…But may this heartfelt message
find some way to comfort you and your entire family.
Please know that we have entered Denise's name and your intentions on the altar of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, Latham, New York. May you know the love and peace that the comfort of these prayers will bring to you and yours.
Sister Agnes Rose Burton, csj/Professor of Political Sciences
Sister Theresa Wysolmerski, csj/Professor of Biological Sciences

Dear Friedman Family,

I knew your mother/wife as a colleague for 20 years at HVCC. We served on sabbatical committee together. I always admired her sharp, critical thinking and wit. She was always good natured, positive, and generous in her support of the college.
