Donna Stevens Obituary

Stevens, Donna K.
COLONIE - Donna K. Stevens, 89, of Colonie passed away October 29, 2024, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, after a prolonged illness. Born March 28, 1935, in Bay City, Michigan, Donna was the daughter of Harold A Kasemeyer and Mildred Stock Kasemeyer. She graduated from T.L. Handy High School in Bay City in 1953 and attended University of Michigan in 1954 studying nursing. When life threw a reboot at her, she blazed a new path for herself, attending Delta College and earning her associates degree in Computer Sciences and Bookkeeping in 1987. Donna found her work niche in the non-profit sector, most notably her tenure at the Troy Boys and Girls Club, which embodied her devotion to fostering the growth of young people in her community. Upon moving to New York in 1996 to live near her daughters, Karin and Kate, she began to help raise her grandchildren. She handed down her love of literature through the generations, starting at a young age for the grandkids by telling them stories she had created and some of her life as a child in Michigan. Her first job as a librarian in Bay City solidified this passion. Donna was passionate about her faith, walking with the Lord every day of her life and consistently devoting her time to the churches in which she served. She was raised in the Protestant faith and continued a lifelong membership. Her enduring faith followed her to New York, where she gave her commitment and care to Loudonville Community Church. There she led a women's bible study group and inspired faith in the newer generations as a Sunday school teacher. Though Donna faced adversity, she was an unwavering presence in the life of those she loved and those who loved her, and in her passing they will find her coming back to them in small moments of compassion extended without hesitation. Beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her three children, Peter (Kathleen) Stevens, of Houston, Texas, Karin (Craig) Shamlian, of Latham, New York, and Kathryn (Scott) Meade, of Niskayuna, New York; and her 11 grandchildren, Geoff, Andrew, Ben, Adam (Kim), Daniel, Nick, Mackenzie, Hannah, Emily, Jordan, and Colin. Relatives and friends may call at Bowen & Parker Brothers, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, New York on Friday, November 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Loudonville Community Church 374 Loudon Road, Colonie, New York on Saturday, November 2, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
